Birthday Certificates, Books, and Brag Bracelets

Birthday Certificates, Books, and Brag Bracelets

Give your students birthday, moving away, or you are special booklets/cards from the class. There are cute birthday bracelets and matching cards/certificates from you! The birthday booklets/cards are a way to make a child feel special. There are colored and black & white copies. I give this out usually for the morning bellwork or during a transition.

As a bonus, for students moving away, this will give your remaining students closure with the student leaving. It will help the student that is leaving feel special. You can use the “You Are Special” booklets/cards for Kindness Week.

Poetry Lesson on Sonnets (Shakespeare and Browning)

https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Poetry-Lesson-on-Sonnets-Shakespeare-and-Browning-1219830

Poetry Lesson on Sonnets (Shakespeare and Browning)

Product Description

Lesson on Sonnets

This mini bundle includes a sonnet from William Shakespeare (#130) and a sonnet from Elizabeth Browning (How do I Love Thee?). In this activity, students will compare the different tones and forms from both poems. One is beautiful and romanticizes love, and the other sees love realistically (and a little meanly if you ask me). Students will identify the different types of sonnets, the figurative language found within their lines, and will have the opportunity to write their own.

Students get to see another side of Shakespeare from his sonnet. Students always love his realistic, yet sarcastic portayal of love.

The mini bundle includes:
– a detailed lesson plan for the teacher
– student notes (the poems) and activity
– an annotated copy of the poems as well as a comprehensive answer key.

The entire unit contains 4 pages.

This lesson is part of a larger poetry bundle:

Free Number Sense Tiling Task

Looking for a number sense building, critical thinking activity?
With the challenges of today’s math curriculum, we do not always have time for a consistent focus on critical thinking. Using tiling tasks in the classroom is one strategy that can offer you an opportunity to increase the critical thinking skills of your students. These tasks involve using number tiles, a set of numbered tiles 0-9, to complete a set of problems. Each tile belongs to one space and only one space. Students use their reasoning skills to complete the task cards. Tiling task cards also make great menu activities or fast finisher challenges.

Click here or on the image above to grab a free copy of my “Number Sense Tiling Task” and a free set of tiles.
Read more about using math starters, like tiling tasks, in the classroom here

Hamlet Unit (No prep - Complete Unit)

Product Description

NEW: You can now download this unit in Word format to customize and save it. All documents are available in PDF and Word formats.

One entire month of planning done for you – I dare you to enjoy Shakespeare.

I love teaching Shakespeare’s plays, and I want you to love it too. I’ve been teaching and improving this unit for over ten years. I have done all the thinking for you.

This unit has everything a teacher needs to teach Hamlet. I’m aware that not everyone is comfortable with Shakespeare. Because of this, I have created this unit from my years of experience teaching the play, so all of the thinking has been done for you. Just photocopy and teach. Seriously it’s that easy.
There’s no longer a need for hours of research and piecing together bits of information and activities found to teach the play.
This is a whole, complete unit, from scene summaries, important notes and annotations notes to help students understand what they are reading. I have also included an introduction to the play, a student guide, a teacher guide, quizzes, a creative assignment, and tests (all with answers and evaluation grids), and a comprehensive answer key. Everything has its place and teaches a specific skill.

The unit is appropriate for students in grades 10, 11 and 12.

The unit includes :

– An attractive, interactive, multimedia PowerPoint presentation introducing the play (17 slides)

The way I use this resource…
In writing, I scaffold and model information to my students. Each class is different and each year is different; therefore, I can’t do everything the same each time I teach the same subject. I start with the basic rubric and introduce 1-3 new concepts each essay. Once I introduce a concept, I hold students accountable for the concepts I taught. If it appears that the majority of the class does not understand the concept, I do not hold them accountable and I reteach the concept. I try not to stifle their creativity by focusing on spelling, capitalization, and punctuation during the first two terms of school depending on the class. I also can easily use the 6 traits of writing with the rubrics.

Additionally, depending on the class, I may start the school year off by requiring a 3 paragraph essay then work our way up to a 7 paragraph essay. Make sure you choose a topic that is relevant, relatable, and the reasons are researchable.

Next, I introduce the peer editing checklist. I have students pair up and exchange papers. I have clipboards students can use while they sit around the room for this activity. It’s important for you to model for the students how to peer edit. Many times students just want to be nice and not give feedback. However, this is a great opportunity for students to read each others essays and learn from each other. I try not to let the same students peer edit with each other every time in order for students to view a variety of styles over the school year.

Finally, you are able to print front and back! Then you can cut them in half to save on paper. For example, pages 4 and 5 are the same rubric. Simply print it from your computer or printer as two-sided. If this does not work for you, print the first rubric for a full page rubric.

Happy Teaching!
Sally
