FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON – “FREE: Body-Spelling Sight Words PowerPoint”

by Brenda Tejeda

Kindergarten – 2nd Grade

⭐The bundle has just been posted and is 40% OFF for a limited time!⭐ Grab it here:
40% OFF: Body-Spelling Sight Words BUNDLE

Sight word fluency is so important, yet many kids struggle to build and retain a strong sight word vocabulary, despite a variety of approaches.

Movement has been scientifically proven to be linked with increased academic performance! Most students are kinesthetic learners and using their bodies to spell words is a great way to incorporate movement into sight word instruction!

This PowerPoint presentation is a free sample of my Body-Spelling PowerPoint resource. It includes the sight word ‘the’ for you to try with your students.

With this PowerPoint, you’ll be able to introduce sight words using all 4 learning styles:

❶ Visual– students read the target sight word, and again in context

➋ Auditory– students say, spell, and hear the sight word

❸ Reading & Writing– students read and write the word on whiteboards or in a student notebook

➍ Kinesthetic– students sky-write and body-spell the sight word

In addition to targeting the 4 learning styles, this method teaches the sight word in context, ensuring comprehension.

If you own my Ultimate Sight Words Bundle, you get this resource free, as it has been added to the bundle!

Thanks for reading!

By Charlene Tess of Charlene Tess

Be sure to say what you mean when choosing between “eager” and “anxious.”

 Writing with Colors
I’ve found that using colors when writing on the whiteboard can be helpful in multiple ways. Colors can be used to create associations in the minds of learners, and the more you repeat the same method of color usage, the more those associations will strengthen in the learners’ minds. Using these associations, students are quicker to find mistakes or identify what they’re supposed to do.

Is Dyslexia a Gift?
Can dyslexia be considered a gift? Read this post before you decide.
Put Your Heads Together to Brainstorm
Brainstorming can be an intimidating and daunting task for many students.  It’s hard for young writers to come up with ideas for a topic without having a lot of life experience.  It is necessary to brainstorm WITH your students in the beginning, then gradually hand over the responsibility to students once you have taught them strategies and skills to use.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON – “Lucky Unlucky ELA Card Game – Editable”

by KinderKay

Pre-Kindergarten – 2nd Grade

This game can be used for many concepts. Type sight words, CVC words, CVCe words, or concept words onto the editable card templates. To add a challenge to the game, create “Einstein cards. These are cards with a more difficult word or concept. When kids pick a LUCKY card, they get another turn. When kids pick an UNLUCKY card, they lose a turn. Cards are worth points. At the end of the game, students count their point. The student with the most points wins. This game can be used as a St. Patricks Day game, but can also be used year round. Because it is editable, words and concepts can be changed for differentiation and practice.
