Why Reading Passages?
โขProvides context for the grammar convention you are teaching
โขProvides students with the opportunity to examine an author’s choice of words, phrases, punctuation, sentence structure, paragraph structure, etc. versus looking at a skill in isolation
โขPromotes the transfer of grammar conventions to reading and writing
โขHelps students close read (i.e. read for a specific purpose)
โขProvides students the opportunity to analyze the impact of incorrect grammar on a writing piece. (e.g. text that is difficult to read or comprehend due to incorrect conventions)
โขHelps students see how the pieces of the puzzle fit together (e.g. how parts of speech are the building blocks for sentences, how sentences are the building blocks for paragraphs, etc.)
Grammar Reading Passages includes 124 reading passages that you can use for the entire year. You can cover topics in order, or you can pick and choose topics based on your studentsโ prior knowledge or areas of need.
