Pre-Kindergarten – 3rd Grade

Are you looking for a fun “Spring” reinforcer activity to use with your students? Do your little ones love bugs? Then this fun FREEBIE is just the activity to use to keep your students engaged and learning!! There are two variations to use this activity.

Catch a Bug Game
Directions for version #1: Print the bug jar (page 3) and the blank sheet of bugs (page 4) on card stock and laminate. Adhere velcro on the jar and bugs. Use as a token board or let the students take off a bug after they complete their speech or language target.

Directions for version #2: Print the bug jar (page 3) and the sheet of bugs with numbers (page 5) on card stock and laminate. Use an empty container and place all the bugs in the jar. I put paper clips on the bugs and then we used my magnetic fishing pole to catch bugs and earn points. The student with the most points wins the game!

This 15 Minute Timer is set up in a PowerPoint Presentation. It is set to change slides every minute. If you want your students to work for only 10 minutes, set the timer to 10 minutes and click start. No one will need to ask you how many minutes are left.

This PPT is also editable. You can change the amount of minutes you want your students to work. You can also add or subtract slides, add your own pictures, or insert sound at the end.

I then had them teach each group in front of the class about the two questions they answered. The kids really liked this project and they enjoyed teaching their classmates. I would recommend this project to anyone covering the Age of Absolutism!

Chicka the Clown is a book I created for my class years ago when we were just ending our Chicka Chicka Back to School unit, but just starting a color and shape clown unit. So Chicka the Clown was born…a segue, if you will, between themes! I wanted an activity for them to complete at a literacy station, but I also wanted a drawing tutorial they could easily follow. Chicka the Clown is what I came up with and I have to say I was really impressed with the drawings my children produced. I also like the fact that they were reading the instructions and practicing colors and shapes as they went along. I hope you enjoy Chicka the Clown in your classroom! Richi Reynolds 2012

Looking for a fun interactive game for your students to practice telling time to the hour? This game will do that and keep your students engaged and having fun!

How to Play Scoot
Every student gets a copy of the response sheet. Students will move from desk to desk or seat to seat, reading the card or you put there and answering it on their sheet in the corresponding box.

It is very important to practice moving from desk to desk or seat to seat before playing the game. Do this a couple of times so they get the hang of moving to the next number. When you say “Scoot” they get up, push in their chair and take their clipboard and pencil to the next numbered desk or seat.

Pre-Kindergarten – Kindergarten

I made this simple letter/sound path game for one of my reading groups. It covers the first 6 sounds that I introduce : p, m, t, a, s, and c. Students must give the sound for the letter they land on.

Simply print, grab a die and some playing pieces and you are all set!

The directions are in black and white. I print them on the back of the game boards.

Critical Thinking Rubric for Writing & Projects – Suitable for All Subject Areas

This product contains:

This rubric provides a clear explanation to students about how to create responses to show their critical thinking. The rubric is formatted generally so you can use it with a variety of prompts and projects. Students should be thinking critically in all subjects, but providing clear guidelines and assessing those standards can be incredibly difficult. This rubric is designed to provide a consistent set of expectations that can be referred to with any subject or with any project.

This rubric can be used in any subject area (Math, Reading, Science, Social Studies, STEM, Humanities, Art, Music, Foreign Languages, Physical Education, etc.) for any activity where students are expected to create something to show their critical thinking and understanding (reports, essays, multimedia presentations, slideshows, videos, skits, speeches, brochures, advertisements, games, picture books, magazine articles, posters, etc.).

There is great flexibility in how you use the rubric to generate grades. It can be a useful formative assignment tool to provide feedback to students about how to improve their responses. It can be used with summative assessments to evaluate student understanding.

The categories for the rubric are:
* Does not meet minimum requirements (students are then required to redo the assignment with scaffolding or re-teaching as needed)
* Satisfactory
* Exceeds Expectations
* Advanced

Common Core Anchor Standards in Writing:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.W.1 – Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.W.2 – Write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas and information clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content.

Four informational text responses that you may use with any book, magazine or reading passage.

1st reader response -The children are asked to write 3 things they have learned, 2 interesting facts and 1 question they still would like to research. There is a space to write the topic of the text and also a space for an illustration.
2nd reader response – four-square – write about the topic
3rd reader response – find four fascinating facts about the topic read
4th reader response – expanding vocabulary – new words found in text – write word, definition, sentence and illustration.
