Create a freedom quilt with your class for black history month or anytime of year.
These directions, parent letter, and grading rubric allow you to make an easy and gorgeous freedom quilt to display. A fun activity to get your students excited about their African American history projects. This project will allow your students to create a beautiful visual representation other than poster boards to go with their African American history papers.

Here are 12 task cards to demonstrate my Word Family task cards that work on phoneme manipulation (deleting the initial sound and adding a new sound) to make words.

This is an important skill for developing reading and decoding/encoding skills.

  • Many students with Dyslexia and other who struggle with reading and writing have difficulty with the skill of phoneme manipulation in words.
  • Auditory conceptualization skills often require specific structured direct teaching and lots of practice.

Learning sight words is such an important part of learning how to read. So make it fun!

There is NO PREP needed.


This freebie is part of a larger series. If you like what you see, check out our Dolch Sight Word Worksheet No-PREP Packet (3rd Grade) or our Dolch Sight Word Worksheet NO-PREP Value Bundle.

This freebie contains 5 sight words: if, long, about, got, six

Each page features a single target sight word with the following activities:

1. Read it and Color it Students will read the specified sight word aloud and color it in. This will help them build connections between the spoken and written word and pay attention to each letter.

2. Trace it Students will trace the specified sight word three times. This will help them practice good penmanship.

3. Find it Students will find and circle the specified sight word in the word search. This will help them practice and recognize the specified sight word. (They will also get to review the previous sight words at the same time.)

4. Fill in the missing letters Students will solve and fill in the missing letters. This will help them remember the spelling of the sight word.

5. Complete the sentence and Write one Students will write the specified sight word in the gap and read the sentence with the sight word. All of the sentences are designed to only include sight words that they have learned before (Dolch list) and simple phonetic (mostly cvc) words. Then they will write one sentence of their own. This will help them with reading fluency and writing.

6. Build it Students will cut and glue letters in the provided boxes to correctly build the given sight word. This will help them consolidate their memory of the sight word and practice their motor skills.

The problem with most Individual Behavior Plans and Check-In Slips is that they’re either too time consuming to write, or they require the teacher to decide on an average for a student’s behavior for the entire day–so if a student had a terrible morning but a wonderful afternoon, the only way to document it is with something half way between a happy face and a sad one. You won’t have that problem with this behavior card, because the days are divided up into five segments; if you notice great behavior in the morning, you can acknowledge the student by writing a star on their card right away, before it gets forgotten among all the other events of the day. I have found this to be a huge motivator for kids who need extra visual support (e.g., ELLs, and those with autism or ADHD). It eliminates the problem of students deciding to give up after they have slipped up a couple of times, because there is still a chance to redeem themselves later in the day.

More than just a behavior plan, this pocket-sized “Star Card” has three functions, all rolled into one:

1) It provides students with motivation to stay on track during each part of the day (morning, mid-morning, late morning, afternoon, and late afternoon). Cartoon reminders focus on the two most commonly needed target behaviors: keeping hands and feet to oneself, and staying seated and focused until work is finished.

2) It can be used as a check-in slip for parents, with designated space on the back to jot down any concerns or triumphs that you want parents to know more about.

3) It serves as a behavioral record, providing easy-to-scan documentation of behavioral patterns over time, showing which parts of the day/week are most challenging for a given student. This will allow you to easily make data-driven decisions to determine which interventions a student will benefit from the most.

These “Star Cards” are easy to print on 4×6” index cards. (No cutting required)! Positive behavior can be acknowledged either with a handwritten star (the fastest method), or with stickers. (The card is designed to work perfectly with Janyun’s pack of colorful happy-faced star stickers, which are 10mm/.4 inch). Negative behavior can be left blank, or you can write a quick explanation (e.g., “running across room”) in the square. Students will be excited to try for a “5-Star Day,” and even more excited to see if they can earn a “25-Star Week.” I recommend letting the pride of their accomplishment be its own reward, but teachers or parents might choose to reward an especially good week with their own token of recognition.

[Please Note: Most inkjet printers will allow for printing on 4×6 index cards via their rear feed tray, but you might want to double check that your printer can do this first].

For a busy time of year, this is an easy print-and-go set of holiday math / shopping activities for students working on money skills in elementary school or life skills classes. Put the sales flyers in a page protector and either cut out the task cards for single use or put them in a photo album or laminate for re-use.

This freebie is a sneak peek of of my Economics of Shopping Series

The freebie consists of three sales flyers for holiday decorations, 8 task cards for writing in prices, and 2 print and go worksheets to answer questions about the flyer. The sales flyers are the same with 3 different levels of pricing. The worksheets are identical but one has a word bank to assist students. The worksheet with the word bank will only work with the stores called “Holly’s Decorations Sale.” It will not work for the third sheet because the Christmas tree price is different. The words from the bank could be cut out and pasted in the answer section, or laminated and attached with Velcro for re-use.

Many of my high school biology students are interested in pursuing a career in the biological sciences, but they are very unaware of all the possible job opportunities available to them.

I created this set of 26 mini posters to display in my room to help my students realize the vast array of jobs that are available in biology. I plan to add to the collection as I have time, to include many more career options.

Use these for your bulletin boards or for a display for career week at your school.

This is a Daily 5 recording sheets for students to use as they complete the Daily 5 activities each day. This one page can be used for three weeks. I have each day in a different color because I color code my days (I use red marker Monday, orange on Tuesday, etc…). I am sure these look just as cute if you print them in black and white as well.
