Here’s a fun fine motor freebie! This Counting Puzzle Fine Motor Skills Task Box Freebie is a perfect addition to the other My Happy Place Fine Motor Skills Task Boxes! It can also be used alone as an early finisher activity, a morning tub, or a simple math center.

This activity allows students to build fine motor skills while practicing counting, ordering numbers, and one-to-one correspondence.

To complete this activity, students sort and order cards from one to ten to put together a boat puzzle. Each card has a numeral and a corresponding number of portholes in the illustration. After assembling the puzzle, students count the correct number of 3/4″ transparent counters to cover each window. Placing the counters requires students to use their pincer grip and helps develop dexterity, stamina, and patience.

To prepare this fine motor activity, print the boat cards on card stock. Laminate them, cut them out, and place them in the task box with a variety of 3/4″ circular counters.


Please note that this resource includes a digital download for you to print. It does not include the manipulatives or box you will need to assemble the activity.

The S sound is such a tricky one for so many of our early elementary students to pronounce! Are you wondering how to explain to your students how to make the s sound? This spaghetti clues resource is a great trick! At my school, I have some wonderful teachers who welcome me (the speech therapist) into the class to teach quick lessons to all of the kids! One of my favorite things to do is mini articulation lessons.

In this freebie, I’ve included a quick description of a mini-lesson for teaching the S sound in the classroom, a poster, and a worksheet. There are so many touch cues and verbal cues, but this is what has worked for me.

Provide the practice students need to master short vowel “a”word families with these free digital, engaging winter snowman Google Slides.

This is a sample from my Winter Word Families Short Vowels Google Slides resource that includes cards for all of the short vowel word families.

Students enjoy the interactive nature of the cards (movable pieces) and this Google Classroom resource is low prep (no printing, cutting, or laminating) making it easier for you to plan word family practice. Simply assign the Google Slides via Google Classroom. Don’t have Google Classroom? No worries – helpful instructions and links are provided that will help you set up Google Classroom.

Students love building the snowman on each card by first looking at the word family on the snowman (the word family is on the sign beside the snowman as well) and then dragging and dropping the 2 snowballs that have pictures of objects that belong to the word family to the snowman (dotted lines show students where to place the snowballs).

Write the Room! Count the Room!

This is an MLK / winter themed math center. It is perfect for preschool and Kindergarten, as well as, special education instruction. It is appropriate for the school and homeschool setting.

Objective: Students will actively move around the room to count the images in the pictures. Students will then write the correct numeral next to the matching letter on the recording sheet.
