This is an activity using cereal (I used Apple Jacks because they have two colors). It gives them a work space for each problem. You can either let them create their own math problems using cereal or you can give them the problem and let them solve it with the cereal. It went really well with my kinders, so I hope you can use it and have fun with it as well!

Looking for a fun activity that is self=checking, collaborative and practices solving proportions? This is a set of 15 problems that need to be cut apart, reassembled in the correct order and fastened together like a chain until the end is reached.

Each of the links has an equation and an answer to another problem. Students will need to solve for x and then find the answer on another strip. Students can either line up the strips in order before fastening together or attach as they go.

Students begin with the link marked start and continue until they are out of links. If students are struggling, teacher can let students know which is the last link. This is a great warm up to review before a quiz. Works well with partners or a group of 3.

Each of the links also have a letter, teacher can quickly identify student progress by using the check word/phrase . Or teacher can look at the links in order.

To finish the lesson, use the included exit cards, which can be randomly assigned to students to check their understanding. If students have never completed a paper chain before, then having a sample they can see (not look at to see the order) helps them understand what the finished product will look like,

This cute little Tooth Tally SMART Board file is a fun way to bring some authentic data into your classroom. It is part of my SmartBoard Math Calendar for Grades 1-3 set. When students lose a tooth, they drag an infinitely cloned tooth to either the boys’ or girls’ side of the page and update the total. This provides opportunities all month long for comparing teeth lost; boys vs. girls. The second page in the file is a place to record monthly totals, which could then be analyzed and graphed. The third page where you can make a graph, if desired. It is a blank template so you can make a variety of graphs. I cloned the teeth on this page in case you want to make a pictograph with each tooth representing a certain number of teeth lost.

It includes a detailed lesson plan with step-by-step directions for teaching with a paper plate, the template for the triangles measured to match the paper plate, and a blank unit circle template for assessing students’ understanding.

In this cootie catcher there are eight questions on finding the nth term of linear sequences and some non-linear, differentiated to three levels (easy, medium and difficult) and a fourth pot luck section.

Number Searches!

Directions:
Cut apart the number searches so each student gets one-fourth of the page.

Choose a number you want students to find addends for. Write this number in the blank center box. Students can find addends vertically, horizontally or diagonally. (I usually keep the middle number between 6 and 20.)

You can give each student a different number search (to discourage copying) OR you can give each student the same number search to encourage collaboration (or competition!)

You can also give different students different numbers in the blank middle box to meet their developmental level.

Money is a somewhat difficult task for young children to identify. For a young child, all coins seemingly look alike and are hard to identify and from their perspective a coin is quite small. The Federal Reserve has changed the appearance of coins numerous times on the front and back.

This is a quick 5 problem hand out. Students are given 5 problems that have two points listed. The student will find the equation of the line, then plot the two points listed and draw a line connecting their dots. This will form the shape of a heart. Students who finish this quickly can color in the heart and/or their paper. I like to display them for Valentine’s Day.

An answer key with each problem worked out is included!

Engage your students with pixel math, a creative way to review and reinforce fluency with decimals, fractions and percents.

One Sample PDF includes:

– One image page – the shape of a heart, with a table for students to enter information after analyzing

– One answer key with the table filled in

– One blank 10×10 grid for students to make and analyze their own image

Worksheet is self checking, in that all answers must add up = to 100 squares, 1.00 decimals, 100/100 fractions and 100%.

Welcome to my store! I wanted to share a free resource that I created as a digital activity for my students.

A robot has infiltrated their assignment and students need to solve addition and subtraction problems to solve the sequencer that will shut it down! This activity also reviews place value in order to solve the sequence.

The great thing about this activity is that it auto-grades. If the cells where they input their answers turn green, then they got it correct! If they type in the correct sequence of digits, then the “false” message will be replaced by something else!

It can be attached to Google Classroom or Schoology as a Google Sheets assignment.
