FREE MATH LESSON – “Free Word Problem of the Day – Valentine’s Day 2022”

These free Valentine-themed story problems will be a festive change of pace for your Word Problem of the Day math lessons.

There are five math problems that you may assign for the entire week leading up to Valentine’s Day. Two of the problems may be solved using multiplication and the other two are solved using division. The fifth Word Problem of the Day is a 2-step word problem.

Students may show their work on printed worksheets or complete the Easel Activity on a computer. Save photocopying costs and have students solve the problems on scratch paper and then find the correct multiple-choice response on the Easel Assessment.

This free product also includes links to thousands of other free lessons for your classroom!

I received the Excellence in Teaching Award from the Los Angeles Unified School District and the Los Angeles Educational Partnership. I am a National Board Certified Teacher and attained a scaled score of 386 points. Teachers needed a scaled score of 275 points to become certified.

I teach concepts in a very strategic way that is not found in the typical textbook. I will be creating videos that demonstrate how I teach language arts, math, and other subjects so that ALL students can succeed.

Looking for a way to make oral counting with your class more fun, visual, engaging and challenging? Math warm ups have never been so good with our Bees Knees FREEBEE Traffic Light Counting Resource! This versatile resource is a great addition to any teachers math toolkit. They can be used year on year across different age groups and we have found kids of all ages have loved using them.

Print, cut and laminate the traffic light and the number cards, selecting the cards within the number range your kids are working within 0-20, 0-50 or 0-100. Explain to children that green means go and red means stop. Choose two numbers and place one on the green go light and the other on red stop light. Talk about which number is bigger and then discuss whether you need to count forwards or backwards.

Example:

Green 8 and Red 23 – Kids are counting forwards/up

Green 56 and Red 12 – Kids are counting backwards/down

This resource also works really well as a math centre activity as a paired or independent task . Put the number cards in an envelope for children to take out and place on the traffic light. They can then count aloud to their partner or record the numbers on a whiteboard.

There are also 8 blank cards (4 addition & 4 subtraction) for you to use to fill in the blank number to create your own. You can use these in a center or on an individual basis.

WHAT IS INCLUDED

Christmas Trees outlines
Arrays of Christmas balls to cut and paste
All this in color and black and white and in two sizes

I’ve included 2 sizes for the balls for each option you choose. The idea is that the bigger ones are easier to cut and look better and you can use them for up to 6×6.

Total: 12 pages

SUGGESTED USE
Kids cut out the shape of the tree, glue it in their interactive notebook or on a separate page if it is a separate activity, and cut as many lines of balls as they need for the equation they focus on.

I either tell my kids which equation to represent or we use a spinner or dice to decide.

This Christmas Idioms Scavenger Hunt {FREE} makes practicing holiday-themed idioms fun! Included are 12 cards that require students to determine the meaning of an idiom in context. This is a perfect activity to use with the whole class or in small groups during the Christmas season!

As the teacher, you will place the cards in secret places all around the room. Students will hunt for a card and read the sentence (with an idiom) on that card. Then, students will hunt around the room trying to find the definition to the idiom they just read on a different card. When they find the card with that answer, they’ll read the sentence shown on that card and then go on a hunt again. Students will love moving around the room trying to find their next question card!

This product consists of a Summary of Methods for Graphing a Linear Equation worksheet and a Summary of Methods for Solving Linear Systems.

The Summary of Methods for Graphing a Linear Equation worksheet is a template with a summary of three methods for graphing a linear equation, including:

~ Point Plotting

~ X- and Y-intercepts

~ Slope-Intercept

Instructions are given for each method to guide the students through calculating points and plotting them on a graph. A blank is provided for an equation so that the teacher can assign the same equation or different equations to be plotted using each method.

The Summary of Methods for Solving Linear Systems page includes a chart which interprets solutions obtained through Substitution and Addition (elimination) methods to help the student determine if the lines in the linear system intersect at one point, are parallel, or coincide. Terminology and the concept of the comparison of slopes and y-intercepts is included in the chart.

  • The students then move to the next card and need to drag a shape into the basket that fits the description in the instruction they were given.
  • Initially they are told either what shape OR what color item to put in the basket. They can choose any item that fits the instruction they have been given. The students are required to remember only one thing – EITHER a shape OR a colour.
  • In the last question the instructions become more specific – they get told the shape AND color of the item they must put in the basket. There will now only be one possible correct item for them to place in the basket. The difficulty increases as the students are now required to remember two things – BOTH a shape AND a colour.
  • In this level, students are only expected to remember one item that they must place in the basket.
