NOTE: This resource uses American English and is not editable.

There are also two answer key cards; one per subject. One way to store these cards is to keep them in sets of five: the four task cards and the answer key card for each subject.

The cards reinforce a variety of skills, including:

  • punctuation
  • capitalization
  • verb tenses
  • possessives
  • contractions
  • singular/plural nouns
  • homophones
  • compound words
  • subject-verb agreement
  • pronoun antecedent agreement
  • spelling
  • “a” vs. “an”
  • comparative and superlative adjectives

Suggestions for Use:

  • Use one card at a time with the entire class using a projector. Select a volunteer to edit the card on the whiteboard.
  • Leave a subset or the entire set at a center and allow students to work through them at their own pace.
  • Print the black-line version and use it for interactive notebooks. Students can glue the cards in their notebooks, correct directly on the cards using editing marks, and then rewrite the sentences.
  • Have students work on cards with partners, comparing their sentences before correcting them.
  • Save answer sheets over the course of the year and use them to make a Fun Facts book for students to keep.

* All facts were found in the book: 5,000 Facts (About Everything), National Geographic Kids, 2012

Please note that these cards are somewhat United States-centric, meaning that measurements are not given in metric and words are spelled using US English. Since they are editing cards, they may not be appropriate for those living outside the US.

Teacher Tip

Here’s what teachers are saying about the 200 task cards set:

✏️ “Um, editing skills? Yes, please! Why? They help my students become better writers without the same pressure that editing their own work puts on them. How does this make them better writers? It fine tunes their eyes for common errors and mistakes, thus making them better at catching their own mistakes when they write or read over their own writing for their peer’s writing. Honestly, I love all your resources, so, obviously, I count this as another excellent tool to have in my teacher toolbox.” -Ariane O.

✏️ “My students have enjoyed these cards. They are quite versatile – we have used them with the recording sheet and as a game. Great resource for reviewing editing skills!” -Lisa V.

✏️ “These tasks are great practice for students. My students enjoy finding all the mistakes. They also enjoy the interesting facts on each card.” -Sherry T.
