This FREE printable helps kiddos practice counting 1-8 with fun summertime pictures! Laminate them for sturdiness, cut them out into strips and use them as clip cards with clothes pins, or if your kids don’t have the fine motor control for clothes pins quite yet, you can keep them in whole sheets and use plastic counters instead (I use these for so many things).

This is great for practicing counting, number recognition and differentiation, and one-to-one correspondence, as well as fine motor skills!

You can find information on the type and quality of books requested in most prisons, plus an extensive list of projects in different areas of the country here. Let students find the one they want to work with, or contact local prisons and ask if they can donate books.

If you’d like to include a research element to help your students be better informed, you can find a lot of wonderful articles and resources from the Prison Policy Initiative.

IMPORTANT: If the organization you choose to work with is not within driving distance, and you do not find a local youth detention center, jail, or prison that will accept your books, then just collect money to send.

This free ecology and environmental science activity is perfect for laying the groundwork prior to teaching your ecology unit. This questionnaire will get your students thinking about the ecology and environmental issues of your local community. Both printable and digital (Google Slides and Google Forms) versions are included.

The first step in protecting our fragile environment is education. Students must learn about the ecology of their immediate area, and take steps to protect, conserve and improve their local environment. How aware are your students of the environment in which they live?

This is the first assignment that I give my students when starting my first unit on ecology and the environment. This thought-provoking activity requires the student to work through a series of questions about their local environment and their efforts to protect and conserve it.

Types of questions include:

Name 5 plants that seem to be native to your area. For each plant, list one reason why it is important to humans. For example, can these plants be used as a source of food? Are they used in landscaping?
List three organizations or agencies in your area that are involved in the conservation and protection of the environment. Describe the purpose of each agency/organization.
When you consider the area in which you live, are there any obvious sources of pollution? If so, describe the source and the type of pollution.

This four page worksheet has 23 questions.

There are no right or wrong answers. My hope is that this activity will encourage students to increase their efforts in conservation and maintenance of the environment.

With this activity, students will solve linear equations from standard form into slope-intercept form (2 exercises are already in slope-intercept form) and then identify the slope and y-intercept. Students will then fill in an abstract space according to their answer with a pattern to reveal a beautiful, fun Zen design! Students can color their final products or leave them in black and white. Either way, your classroom will be decorated with beautiful artwork as the students practice their Algebra skills!

This no-prep activity is an excellent resource for sub plans, enrichment/reinforcement, early finishers, and extra practice with some fun. It is especially useful for end-of-year practice, spiral review, and motivated practice when students are exhausted from standardized testing or mentally “checked out” before a long break (hello summer!). I designed this page for my library students to color when our school was focusing on the Social-Emotional Learning theme of Relationship Skills. It is a low-key follow-up activity that can be used after discussing relationship skills or reading an SEL-themed read aloud.

Each poster explains how a lunar eclipse and solar eclipse occur.
