This is a measurement activity that requires measuring arm span and height. It is a great activity to do as a science experiment following the scientific process.
I have included the outline and the procedure for this on the following pages. I have also included a recording sheet for the results. I have included sheets for measuring in cm and inches.

I do this activity at my student-led conferences, so I have included a recording sheet for parents as well.

Kindergarten – 6th Grade

Students love to interact with the Smartboard! Take advantage of this with my fun soccer-themed attendance file. Once you set this up with your students’ names using the included directions, you are good to go for the rest of the year! When students enter the classroom in the morning, they drag their soccer ball to the net. You can easily tell who is absent because their soccer ball has not been moved. The important thing is to NOT save the file each day. That way it will reset with the balls back in their original positions.

Directions: Cooperatively in pairs, use one set of ten pennies and ten frame board. First player puts the pennies in his hands behind his back, put some in one hand the rest in the other. Put the pennies from one hand on the ten frame, then, without showing the content of the other hand, ask partner how many he thinks there are. Count the pennies as they are added to the ten frame board to complete ten. Make/Write that addition sentence, or the fact family on the record sheet. This is great practice for facts of ten during math centers.

Each ice cream cone has 3 scoops. Skip count by 3s to find the sum.

Students are asked to skip count by 3s up to groups of 10.

For more advanced students, I recommend having them write a repeated addition and/or multiplication sentence to represent each question.

Try these new Number slap hands, inspired by my VERY popular Dolch Slap hands!

This set includes 2 separate options to print!
Numeral cards (1, 2, etc)
Numbers as words(one, two, etc)
Includes all numbers 1-10

Simply print on cardstock and scatter in a random pattern on the floor or taped to the wall.
It may be easier for struggling learners to only use a few numbers at a time (3-5).

Give a student a number and they need to slap it with their open palm to show their recognition.

Do you ever have issues with students who never seem to listen to the directions, even after you have given them 3 and 4 times? I know I have in the past, so I decided to do some listening skills practice activities in order to fine-tune their listening capabilities.

After giving my students a short listening task, I either graded the work (which became an eye opener for some!) or we used it as a teachable mini-lesson on what should have been done better. Sometimes I even rewarded the student who received the best score as an exemplary way to listen and follow directions. The reward usually involved a little extra computer time or maybe being the line leader for the day.

Sometimes we assume that students know how to listen and that if we give directions several times they should be able to hear, listen, and apply. Unfortunately some students need to continuously practice that skill, much like any other curriculum strategy. Following Directions in the Common Core Classroom will not only help your students to be more keenly aware of oral directions, but also help you with expected classroom routines and procedures.

The wheel is divided into four wedges of weather. Each wedge is guarded by a mischievous fairy who will ask the students 3 questions. If they pass they could receive a valuable prize and many life points (which can be tallied on a board for a winner). If they fail these questions then they risk their points and even their life!

A few of the skills covered include: main idea, summary, context clues, author’s purpose and more!

Autism Visual Aids Schedules, also known as Picture Communication Symbols.

This system has several phases spanning from pointing at symbols on a communication board, exchanging large cards with symbols or real photo’s for the item, and using smaller hook and loop fastener routines and schedules.

Visual aids can be used for in a variety of situations and occasions, such as: school, shopping, and home.

Some children who are non-verbal find visual resources brilliant for communicating their wants and needs.

How to Add Animated Photos to the TpT Quote Area

In the Teachers Pay Teachers store, the quote area can be animated to help engage viewers. This is a set of steps which can be used to created animated photos using PowerPoint and free online sites.

Now includes a free blank PowerPoint with correctly sized slides. Just add your own images!

This is a simple approach to making the animation. There are other possibilities, but this approach should be something most TpT’ers can do with just a very little knowledge of HTML. Step one has a link to a YouTube video demonstration that accompanies this one page PDF.

A cute way to teach the seasons. Each page has the starter of “I Like _____ because”. Students will write why they like that season. They can also draw a picture to go with their writing.

A student example is provided. Students cut out the template and glued it to construction paper folded in half. We then glued the pages together and made a book. Great keepsake!

Students place one number card at a time on a game board to form a 3 digit + 3 digit equation. Once a number card is placed on the game board, it cannot be moved. The student with the highest correct answer wins. Students review addition as they use logic and problem solve to find the highest answer.
