Halloween CVC Word Match FREEBIE! This eye-catching, Halloween-themed game focuses on 20 CVC words, including 4 words for each medial vowel. I revised the product to include blank cards, too! It is appropriate for use in preschool through first grade. The words are presented in a matching game format to make it easy for younger students. Recording sheets in color and black-and-white are also included. The game can be used for small group reading instruction, as practice for pairs of students, or sent as homework.

This product addresses the following Common Core* Language Arts Standards for Kindergarten and First Grade:

RF.K.2. Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes). Recognize and produce rhyming words. Count, pronounce, blend, and segment syllables in spoken words. Blend and segment onsets and rimes of single-syllable spoken words. Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in three-phoneme (consonant-vowel-consonant, or CVC) words.1 (This does not include CVCs ending with /l/, /r/, or /x/.) Add or substitute individual sounds (phonemes) in simple, one-syllable words to make new words.

RF.K.3. Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. Demonstrate basic knowledge of letter-sound correspondences by producing the primary or most frequent sound for each consonant. Associate the long and short sounds with the common spellings (graphemes) for the five major vowels. Distinguish between similarly spelled words by identifying the sounds of the letters that differ.

L.K.2. Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing. Spell simple words phonetically, drawing on knowledge of sound-letter relationships.

RF.1.2. Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes). Orally produce single-syllable words by blending sounds (phonemes), including consonant blends. Isolate and pronounce initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in spoken single-syllable words.

RF.1.3. Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. Decode regularly spelled one-syllable words.

This is a free sample of additional activities like those found in Fall Receptive Language: Feature, Function, Class (autism)

Using a fall theme with apples and pumpkins, this combination of print-and-go and reusable materials is great for early learners, ABA programs, discrete trials and speech therapy. They are designed to provide a variety of ways for special education students and early learners to practice receptive vocabulary skills beyond just naming items.

I developed them with the idea of using them with students in discrete trials to be able to administer trials to more than one student and to add some variety to the materials for teaching these skills to prevent students from getting bored. They are designed to help students working on identifying items by feature (characteristics/adjectives), function, and class (category).

Confidentiality posters for your office! Free, snazzy, psychoeducational Confidentiality Posters for the Trauma Informed School Counselor. Because everything can be a learning moment, from the passive learning from your office decor to the active learning students encounter in your office and their classrooms. Various backgrounds, including dinosaurs, kittens, tribal print, unicorns, glitter, rainbow, chalkboard, tie-dye, galaxy print, and more!

Confidentiality posters are quite literally a necessity for school counselors, but that doesn’t mean they have to be scary or boring! In true school counseling style these confidentiality statements build on the standard exclusions to become an opportunity for education.

Each poster says this or a variation of this:

Confidentiality

(or, the rules about what stays between us and what doesn’t.)

Chats with the door open or in the hallway aren’t confidential… Other people can hear us!

When the door is closed everything you tell me stays between us unless…

1. You tell me you are going to hurt yourself.

2. You tell me someone is going to hurt you.

3. You tell me you are going to hurt someone.

4. There is a medical emergency.

5. You tell me something like “I can’t see the board in math!” I would ask the math teacher to move you to the front row and ask the school nurse to check your eyesight.

In other words, I only need to share the details of what we talk about if your wellbeing is at stake. I do this because I care and because I am legally bound to do so. I will always do my best to let you know before I share anything we talk about so it isn’t a surprise to you.

These simple parent letters are designed to help you and your students communicate with their parents about the first day of school. This freebie includes letters for preschool, pre-k, kindergarten, first grade, and second grade.

This is an editable PowerPoint document. You must have PowerPoint to use this file.

Each page contains two text boxes that you can fill with your own text prior to printing. Alternatively, you can delete the text in the boxes and print the page with no text if you would prefer to hand write your notes.

You can choose to prepare these notes in their entirety before the first day of school by filling the text boxes with information about what you have planned and what you want parents to know going forward.

If you would prefer, you can type a little note in the bottom text box, but leave the top box empty for your students to fill in at the end of the day.

A third option would be to use the bottom box to hand write a quick note about each particular child and how their first day went.

The Shy Little Kitten Study Guide is for Preschool-1st grade students and emphasizes vocabulary and story comprehension. There are discussion questions, a writing activity, a maze, and a cat playset for the students to make.

The teacher can ask the students the discussion questions to see how well they understood the story. They can also discuss the vocabulary words and make sure the students understand them.

The last part of the lesson has two hands-on activities for the students to do to reinforce the lesson in their minds and help them to remember what they have learned.

Back to School Memory Book (Grades 1-3) is an expanding memory book that grows as your school year progresses! Included are one Memory Book sheet for each month of the school year (August – June). Each page has a place for students to draw pictures, cut and paste work, or write quotes that represent what happened in class that month. This 30 page Google Classroom alphabet activity includes five mini games that will have students practicing letter recognition for the letter S! The activity has students practice alphabet recognition for uppercase and lowercase letters, making these games perfect for a letter of the week or letter of the day program!

Note: These games focus primarily on letter recognition, not phonics or phonemic awareness… but the graphics included for each letter can help to introduce students to beginning sounds.
