Don’t send the kids off this summer without this take-home poster and checklist for the fridge!

**Send this poster home with a summer tote bag of books and goodies!
Send this home to parents with your newsletter.
You can also email this file to your parents!**

This is what I sent home last year with my students–they loved taking this home as a reminder of easy, fun things they can do–nothing too difficult. These are simple, everyday literacy activities that DO contribute to growing into smart readers!

An extra page is for kids to write in their ideas for keeping tuned up with their literacy skills–You can also add math skills, too! Math literacy counts!! (Of course!)

How many times do you hear a parent or child say they want ideas of what to do over the summer? This is a “swimmingly” cute reminder of what kids CAN do over the summer. It’s a list of just a handful, 12 ideas, in fact….but it’s only a short list—because there’s so much more to do. This will spur them onto other ideas.

So, be sure to help them tune up this summer, and send this home with your kiddos. Remind them that tuning up can be more than just reading a book.

And this free lesson, “CLIFFORD, THE BIG RED DOG CRAFTIVITY…AFTER READING THE STORY”, provides the primary age children with an introductory experience in my LanguageART approach to teaching…in which art and literature work together. After hearing the teacher read the story of Clifford, the Big Red Dog, and discussing the story, the students will then enjoy a simple cut and paste project. They will learn many basic art skills, have a chance to add creative details of their own, and of course have fun! This project can be used in the art room, classroom, or as a home school activity. This is a blank template I use often in my classroom during math activities, or as a kind of group exit slip or diagnostic to see if students can spot the error. This resource includes both the powerpoint version (so you can add textboxes over top of where you wish to add your information), or the PDF – which is what I use. I simply project the PDF onto the whiteboard and we use our whiteboard markers to write in the boxes. You can also print and use the blank PDF and use a center or a guided math activity.

I use this activity as reinforcement/review when I see an error commonly happening in the classroom. I can quickly pull up the template (which I have as a shortcut on my computer desktop) and write in the question and incorrect solution. I ask students to look at the incorrect solution, find and circle the error on the board, and then model the correct solution on the right hand side.

The Common Core for 4th Grade states that students should be able to “find all factor pairs for a whole number in the range of 1-100” … and “determine whether a given number in the range of 1-100 is prime or composite.”

This Finding Factors Freebie is what I use to teach my 4th graders how to find all the factors of “Today’s Number” which is a routine we do as part of my SMARTBoard Math Calendar. Today’s Number is always whatever day of school it is, and we make an organized factor list, starting with 1 and the number. My students become experts on prime and composite numbers, as well as the difference between factors and multiples, thanks to this daily repetition.

Are you looking for a fun “Spring” reinforcer activity to use with your students? Do your little ones love bugs? Then this fun FREEBIE is just the activity to use to keep your students engaged and learning!! There are two variations to use this activity.

Catch a Bug Game
Directions for version #1: Print the bug jar (page 3) and the blank sheet of bugs (page 4) on card stock and laminate. Adhere velcro on the jar and bugs. Use as a token board or let the students take off a bug after they complete their speech or language target.

Directions for version #2: Print the bug jar (page 3) and the sheet of bugs with numbers (page 5) on card stock and laminate. Use an empty container and place all the bugs in the jar. I put paper clips on the bugs and then we used my magnetic fishing pole to catch bugs and earn points. The student with the most points wins the game!

This product consists of one bunting flag with a book review for students to complete as they finish each book. The flags can then be attached to ribbon to make a colourful book review banner that will grow as the term progresses and students read more books.

This 15 Minute Timer is set up in a PowerPoint Presentation. It is set to change slides every minute. If you want your students to work for only 10 minutes, set the timer to 10 minutes and click start. No one will need to ask you how many minutes are left.

This PPT is also editable. You can change the amount of minutes you want your students to work. You can also add or subtract slides, add your own pictures, or insert sound at the end.

This timer can be used for any classroom and/or any grade.
Use it for your center rotations or for a math fact drill.

“Think- Pair – Share” is a great strategy for differentiating learning and keeping students on task, resulting in more effective student learning. This strategy is also a very effective classroom management tool –it keeps students involved and provides opportunities for teachers to check for understanding. Think-Pair-Share has many benefits to student learning–builds in wait-time; provides rehearsal for responses; enhances depth and breadth of thinking; increases level of participation; keeps students on-task; provides processing time called for in 10:2 Theory.
