Your class will love folding and assembling this teeny-tiny-one-cut booklet that’s filled with facts about shamrocks and clover…. (e.g. you probably know that 4 leaf clovers are quite rare, but did you know that the world record for the most leaflets on a clover is 56?!!) After assembling and illustrating your pages, head outside to find a clover leaflet to complete your booklet. May the ‘luck of the Irish’ be with you this Saint Patrick’s day!

This St. Patrick’s Day resource has opportunities for reading, making a mini book, drawing, coloring, working with compound words, and writing.
This original story is about a boy who has a knack for fooling a sneaky leprechaun. Kids will read how Peter tricked a leprechaun in this mini book.

Kids illustrate some of the pages to show comprehension. Writing pages check comprehension, as well as include prompts such as “What would you do if you had a pot of gold?”

~Mini book (12 half pages) for students to assemble, read and illustrate.
~Black and white for economical printing and coloring
~Print single-sided
~Cut and staple together for a simple little book to read and illustrate individually or with a reading buddy.

This is a fun way to review presidents and get your kids up and movin’ at the same time. Choose movements for your kids to do as they say the name of each president – jumping jacks, punch out, and chair kicks are just a few ideas you can use. There are two speeds to choose from. With “click to advance”, you will control the speed. This is a good one to use if you want to discuss the presidents or just go slowly. If you choose this “auto advance”, transitions happen automatically. This is fun when you are doing the moves with your kids. Just start it and join in the fun!

Valentine’s Day Letter Naming or Sound Fluency Game
Great for centers, independent work time, interventions, and small groups! The Read and Write the Room works really well for those early finishers.

This is card game. Print and laminate or print on cardstock for long-term use, there are 26 letter cards, and 8 special cards which include go again, lose a turn, and give a card to a friend.

To Play: Players will take turns picking a card and reading either the letter name or sound. If a special card is drawn, follow the directions on the card. (lose a turn, go again, give a card to a friend) The game is over when the cards are gone or when time is up. Winner has the most word cards!

*FREE* Read and Write the Room. Hang 10 letter cards around the room. Have students walk around, read the words, and record them on the recording sheet. Your students will love this game.

In this packet, you’ll find everything you need for a fun Valentine’s Day activity that works for any novel. Students will design and deliver valentines from one character to all the rest, then use their favorites to create a lovely display.

General Summary:
Divide students into groups and assign each group a character from the novel. Then give each group a mailbox handout, a box or bag or envelope (to use as a mailbox), a scissors, and the valentines. Each group will create a valentine for every other character from the perspective of their character and then deliver them into the mailboxes. Each group will read the valentines their character received and choose the two they think best reflect the characters’ relationship to share with the class and then hang up on the display.

What’s inside:

Mailbox Cover: Give each group a mailbox cover and have them fill it in with their character’s name. Then let them tape or staple it to the box, bag, or envelope they are using for a mailbox.

Example: You can print this out to show everyone before the activity if you wish. Stress that they are supposed to try to show their understanding of the characters in the novel through what they write on the valentines.

Valentines: There are eight blank valentines for each group. Have students fill in enough for however many characters you are using for the activity. Let students know that not all Valentine’s Day messages will be about love. Plenty of people send valentines to friends or relatives, or even, as in the example, people they don’t like.

Banner Letters: Print out these banner letters to spell “BE MINE”, cut them out, and hang them up on a patch of wall or a bulletin board. Then as each group shares their top two Valentines with the whole class, invite them to hang the pieces up under the banner for a great classroom display.

Here is a February calendar header and number cards for your classroom calendar, to be used as number cards for students, or used to number centers in your room with a dash of Valentine’s Day splashed in! Just print, cut out, and laminate. Includes the header, numbers 1-31, and several blank templates that you can write holidays, birthdays, or special events on. (Tip: If you use sharpie on top of lamination, just use nail polish remover at the end of the month to take off for the next year!) Enjoy!

Valentine’s Day Word Challenge
Use this fun Valentine’s Day Word Challenge to engage your students in working with sounds and words. Students will use the scrambled letters from two common Valentine’s symbols to create as many other words as they can. The second goal is to decode the scrambled letters to figure out the challenge words.

This is a great activity to do whole class, individually or as a word work center. Make a game out of it by challenging students to create as many words as they can that other students do not have. My class also loves to find as many words as they can while racing the clock.

I hope you and your class enjoy this activity as much as we have!

Across from me at a parent-teacher conference, she sat crying. This single mom was relating how she was unable to buy the most desired gift for her child—a pair of very expensive tennis shoes.

I tried to remind her about all the important things that parents can give to their children which do not cost money and are much more valuable. Later, I started thinking that those priceless gifts might be important reminders for other parents in our materialistic culture.

This 10 page document has students sort picture word cards of various items you may find under the tree under Christmas “holiday” tree for 1 syllable, 2 syllable, 3 syllable, or 4 syllable words. There are six words for 1 and 2 syllable words, six words for 3 syllable words, and there are four 4 syllable word cards. There are also blank cards for creating your own syllable cards. In addition, there is a recording sheet to go along with this activity for a group or individual, and an independent assessment sheet. This item is a fun way for students to learn and practice syllables, and can be used in a whole group, centers, or independently.
