This download contains a sample of worksheets from the product My Alphabet Writing Book

Use these Alphabet Handwriting books to help early learners practice letter recognition and writing.

Included is a worksheet for every letter in the alphabet. On each worksheet, students colour the image and trace over the letters (upper case and lower case). They also trace over words starting with the letter and the simple sentence.

Each worksheet also includes a clip art, black and white image of an animal starting with that letter that students can also recall and colour. This could be great for rotations (centres), or daily practice.

Ambrose Bierce’s popular work, “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge,” is a common and engaging text used in secondary English classes. Written just ten years before the turn of the century, Bierce’s story addresses themes of time and reality in interesting ways. Indeed, his film has remained popular since its release because of how he tackles these themes–specifically in his twist ending. As far back as 1964, French film director Robert Enrico created an Academy Award winning short film based off this story (which, by the way, is also very popular among students).

I LOVE using literature circles in my classroom. The only trouble I had with them was making sure every group was working and on task. I created this Lit Journal to help me keep my students accountable for their time. Now I can pull a small group and not worry about whether or not the other groups are on task. When the time for literature circles is up, I have them bring me their journals and I glance at them immediately so there is instant feedback. They each have their own 3 ring binder to keep their sheets in. This way, they can flip through and look at all the books they�ve read. The cover sheet can slide in the front of each binder so the kids can easily pick theirs out. The �AR� blank is for them to write how they did on the Accelerated Reader test. I hope you enjoy these and find them very useful!

Here’s a quick way to focus the class before a session of independent reading or writing workshop. The Reading Record-Status of the Class sheet helps you track student independent reading accountability or independent writing workshop time.

Use the Status Check twice a week as a motivator and a reminder that reading is expected and it matters and that independent writing time is for making progress. Record books a student has completed, and focus in on those struggling readers who may need some modification. The Status of the Class Sheet is perfect for the homeschooler or any grade level requiring independent reading or independent writing workshop time.

Are your students struggling in the classroom? Difficulty processing visual information can lead to problems with reading, spelling, handwriting, math, and comprehension. These no prep, free spot the difference pictures are great for small groups, occupational therapy activities, morning bell work, stations, and classroom early finishers. Use these fun and engaging spot-the-difference visual perceptual activities to help your students improve their reading and writing skills. 

This is a free sample of my visual perception spot the difference resources. It contains one color board for Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. Each page includes an answer key. Full resources include BW versions and several different boards for each theme.


To save ink and paper consider printing and laminating color copies. Another option is using Easel by TpT. I have created an interactive version of this resource you can assign to your students within your digital classroom. OT Tip: Difficulty processing visual information and poor visual-motor coordination skills can lead to problems with reading, spelling, handwriting, drawing, math, and comprehension. Visual perception is the skill needed for a child to make sense of what they see.  Help their brains interpret and organize the information they are taking in throughout their day with engaging activities. Work on visual perceptual skills with activities like matching, spot the difference, sorting, directed drawing, word searches, I-spy, and mazes.

These flash cards work like traditional flash cards except instead of using plain ol’ text, they use interesting, colorful, funny images and animations to teach your students the meaning of academic word roots.

How does it work?

You show an image or animation to the class, and students mentally connect that image or animation to a Latin root.

For example, you might show a slide with an image of water pouring from a faucet. Students look at the image and think, “Water, …aqu!” They associate the water with the Latin root aqu. A meaningful and lasting mental connection is made.

I’ve used this mnemonic tool many times with middle school English and Science classes. The students enjoy it and it works.

Why is it important?

Latin roots are word parts that have meaning. They are the building blocks of thousands of English words. Benevolent, malicious, amorous, aquifer, magnitude, migration — the list goes on an on — all of these words contain Latin roots.

Knowledge of word roots and their meaning is important and useful for our students because it gives them the ability to decode the meaning of unfamiliar words in a variety of situations.

Why use these flash cards?

There are three, research-proven components to memorization, and this tool covers all three:

1. Teach to multiple sensory modalities.

2. Information is remembered best if it is interesting or useful.

3. New information is easier to remember if it can be linked to something already stored in the memory bank.

These flash cards have a distinct advantage over traditional flash cards in that they are BIG. You can use them with the whole class at once. You can also set them up at a center or classroom computer and have students rotate through individually.

Meet Adam Apostrophe. He’s the newest addition to my “Meet the Puncs” anchor chart freebie. If you don’t already have a copy of the poster set, you can grab it here.

The inspiration for these posters came from an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G set of books called Meet the Puncs by Barbara Cooper. If you’ve never heard of them, you can check them out here!

After I’ve read the books to the kids, I hang the posters in my classroom. Try giving your students various types of sentences on strips and have them find the correct poster. This little game gets them moving and they love figuring out what kind of punctuation they were given. You can also give them the strips without the punctuation on them and have them stand under the poster they think is correct.

Students will play this game in groups of two to four. The goal of the game is to collect all the parts of the snowman before the other players by reading the sight words correctly on each card drawn from the pile. The sight words included in this game are the second grade Dolch words. At the end of the game, students will record the sight words they have in their hands on the recording sheet. This game would be great in a literacy center or for review in a small group setting.
