FREE MATH LESSON – “Number Identification Cards Game (Penguins)”

Kindergarten – 1st Grade

Students will review number identification with the number cards game. There are fifty cards. Twelve of the cards have a yellow star on them. When played in a group students take turns taking a card from the pile as they speak the number aloud. When a student draws a card with a star, they get an extra turn. The student with the most cards, at the end of the game, wins. I would encourage you to laminate the cards. My store has more number cards games with a different picture. Check them out.

Each sheet has 12 problems, which is enough to reinforce the concept, but not enough to overwhelm students. The opportunity to color after the computation is done, helps to ease the stress that often comes with regrouping.

These fraction paths and flexible charts are great tools to have handy at kid’s disposal to help develop fraction sense. These charts are foldable, where the slits at the top of the fraction path can be cut on the dotted lines and then folded over. You can cover up a few fractions to see if they know what is missing, you can use it to model adding and subtracting fraction with like denominators, and you can use it to compare fractions with unlike denominators. They two foldables can be kept together as one, or cut apart to make two separate ones. There are also fraction squares chart and missing numerator charts.

FREE!! Mitten Counting!

Write the Room! Count the Room!

This is an mittens / winter themed math center. It is perfect for preschool and Kindergarten, as well as, special education instruction. It is appropriate for the school and homeschool setting.

Objective: Students will actively move around the room to count the mittens in the pictures. Students will then write the correct numeral next to the matching letter on the recording sheet.

Materials:

– Mitten picture cards (pg. 3-5)

– Recording Sheet (pg. 8)

– Extension Worksheet (pg. 9)

– Optional: I have included cards with numerals on them, so that you can use the cards to play memory, etc. (pg. 5-7)

Optional: Clipboards for students to carry around to record their numbers.

Procedure:

– Print and laminate the cards for durability.

– Tape the mitten object cards around the room.

– Students will take a clipboard and go around the room searching for the pictures on their recording sheet. When they find the matching letter, they will count the objects and write the numeral on the line beside the picture.

– I have included extra cards with numerals on them. You can use these to play a memory match up game with both sets of cards. Students will match the numeral to the correct number of mitten objects.

There are two versions of this activity to allow for easy differentiation. In one version, students model basic fractions, and in the second version, students must model equivalent fractions.

Print, copy, cut and play this mean, median, mode, range game – a math version of truth or dare!

With 36 question cards, this easy-prep game offers students a choice of question types – a “truth,” which is a true or false question addressing vocabulary or more basic mean, median, mode and range questions; or a “dare,” which addresses more difficult MMMR questions. The different cards have different point levels for students to earn. They record their answers and points on their recording sheets.

Have you checked out the Mean, Median, Mode and Range Activity Bundle? Several activities and a bit of savings!

Great to play in groups of 3 – 4, but group size can vary….the smaller the group, the more questions each student will answer. Also great as a center activity.

This activity will get your students up and moving all while working collaboratively in partners or small groups. Each card has an addition or subtraction question with positive and negative integers. You can use this as an informal assessment after the number operations unit or as a great review before STAAR or a unit test. I also use this activity with my 7th graders to review positive and negative rules before starting our rational number unit.

This activity includes a sheet for students to write their answers and show their work on, as well as a teacher answer key.

TEKS:

Do you wish your students could remember mathematical processes in a fun and easy way? This one-page quick reference sheet for math folders uses songs, rhymes, and tables to help your students remember math algorithms and math concepts.

It’s great for keeping in a binder or affixing to a homework folder, suitable for 3rd to 5th grades.

The songs, rhymes, and tables include these mathematical concepts:

  • Prime numbers
  • Order of operations
  • Multiplication
  • Division
  • Definitions of common terms and simple formulas for geometry calculations.

I used it in my 5th grade class to help students remember concepts they had already learned, and also to introduce new concepts. It’s also great for 3rd grade and 4th grade.

Songs

  • Mean, median, and mode are sung to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat.
  • Multi-digit multiplication order is sung to Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.
  • Prime numbers up to 50 is sung to the theme song for The Adams Family.

Mnemonic Phrases

  • “Please excuse my dear Aunt Sally” for Order of Operations.
  • “Does McDonald’s Sell CheeseBurgers and Shakes?” for the algorithm of long division.

This is the digital version of my popular Ugly Christmas Sweater Holiday Project.

About this resource :

Students will be able to apply what they know about translations, reflections and rotations to create an “Ugly Christmas Sweater”. {{The word Holiday is used in the resource in place of Christmas}}

Students will use a digital coordinate graph pre-populated with shapes to figure out where the sweater decorations will go. They will follow through the directions and come up with the placement of each object. They’ll have the chance to add to each object when they are finished – for example, they can turn the rectangle into a present.

They will then use the sweater with the grid inlay to sketch out their ugly sweater. You can have them add additional decorations / colors / designs / patterns to the sleeves if you wish.

Help your students become fluent at doubles addition math facts with this super fun, hands-on Zombie Addition Game! This doubles addition facts game also includes a worksheet to practice the addition double facts for fluency!

Your students will love playing Zombie! It is a “Bang” type game, where students choose a card and answer the problem. If they get it correct, they keep the card. If they answer the addition fact incorrectly, they put their card back. If they draw a ZOMBIE! card, they put ALL of their cards back. Whoever has the most cards at the end WINS! This addition facts game can be played with 2 or more players! Perfect for small group math activities and math centers!
