This project-based learning menu can be used with or without the book Wicked Plants by Amy Stewart. The menu includes nine different projects from which students can choose to conduct individual or group research to answer these driving questions:

How can the spread of the invasive plant be limited?
How can we educate citizens so that they can contribute to limiting the spread of invasive species?
Why is there such urgency in addressing the spread of invasive species?
What is the potential economic impact, both positive and negative of invasive species?
What role can the law play in controlling the spread of invasive species?
How could we create effective fund raising efforts to control invasive species?
What can we learn from models and simulations?
What lessons have we already learned about controlling invasive species?
How can we make the public understand and care about the invasive species problem?

This camouflage t-chart sorting activity is perfect for review or assessment! Students read each description card that lists an animal and a habitat. They then cut and paste the card onto the correct side of the t-chart (camouflaged or not camouflaged). This can be done as independent work, as part of a whole class discussion, or in partners/small groups. Just print and go! Black and white design is printer friendly and saves on ink.

The sentences in this little bible story are based on a pattern with predictable endings. The last part in each sentence changes, but can be determined by focusing on the picture clues.

Are you looking for a way to make your students more focused on what they should be learning, and more motivated to fill in gaps in their knowledge? This document contains specific objectives for content such as heat transfer, specific heat, electromagnetic radiation, water phase change, and kinetic and potential energy, written in first person, student-friendly language. They also include a list of suggested vocabulary for that unit assessment. Students can rate how they are doing on each one on a descriptive scale. They can then use these to guide their studying, ask questions, etc.

I started making “Keeping Track of my Learning” Pages for each unit and they have completely changed my class! I sometimes use them at the start of a unit, midway through, or at the end as a starting point to focus their review. On my course evaluations, many of my past students said this was one of the things that helped them the most!

FREE MATH LESSON – “Volume of Prisms and Cylinders Zen Math *Freebie*”

With this no-prep activity, students will find the volume of various prisms and cylinders. Then, they will find their answer on the abstract picture and fill in the space with a given pattern to reveal a beautiful, fun Zen design! Students can color their final products or leave them in black and white. Either way, your classroom will be decorated with beautiful artwork as the students practice their geometry skills!

This activity is an excellent resource for sub plans, enrichment/reinforcement, early finishers, and extra practice with some fun. It is especially useful for end-of-year practice, spiral review, and motivated practice when students are exhausted from standardized testing or mentally “checked out” before a long break (hello summer!).
