FREE MATH LESSON – “Adding and Subtracting Polynomials ‘Most Likely to…’ Award *Freebie*”

In this no-prep activity, students will unknowingly choose classmates to win silly “most likely to…” awards as they practice their algebra skills! Students will write the names of 12 classmates as their nominees in the spaces provided, and then eliminate them one by one as they simplify polynomial expressions with addition or subtraction. The last classmate remaining wins the award! The students will complete the small award certificate, color/decorate if it time allows, and then present it to the winner.

This activity builds a positive learning environment by using peer interactions as students practice their algebra skills. This activity is perfect for end-of-year skills practice, beginning of the year review, concept review, or enrichment/reinforcement. For extra fun, you can hold an “awards ceremony” at the end of class so that students can present the winners to their classmates! You can display the awards on your bulletin board, or the students can keep them in their notebooks or decorate their lockers with them. This is sure to be a fun and motivating way to get your students to practice math without realizing they are doing it!

These three FREE fun creative writing story activities have prompted some of the most happy, imaginative fiction lessons I have ever had with my students! Each story takes about 20- 25 minutes to write; the sharing time afterwards will vary according to class size. Each of the activities will provoke both the imagination AND critical thinking. The “show, not tell” activity reinforces that all important characteristic of successful narrative that eludes so many writers.

The first activity is in the form of a printable for students, whereas the other two need to be related to them orally to maintain their intriguing secrets.

“Resume” is actually a magical piece of paper that’s kind of like a remote crossed with a good cup of coffee: it gives you control over what channels of your life potential employers see first, and motivates you to make your high-school-self as well rounded as you can be. Win-win!

This download includes worksheets to guide students through the steps of creating a resume and cover letter. These can be used as a stand-alone workshop or classroom lesson or as part of a wider unit. Use to help students prepare to make their own snazzy resume, or use for mock-interviews throughout the school.

This is a simulation using toys (not included) to show patterns of inheritance. Students create parent potatoes and complete Punnett squares to calculate phenotypic ratios of Mendelian crosses to find out possible offspring.

Try this FREE SAMPLE of my engaging Integer Operation Squares! Working with rational numbers (positive and negative integers only), this free product has a few sample puzzles from my Sum Squares, Difference Squares, Product Squares and Quotient Squares resources (see links below). Each product is a great way to consolidate and challenge students with the basic operations with positive and negative integers.

A different and fun way to practice INTEGER operation facts within +/-100. Integer Squares provide the answers, students need to fill in all 4 boxes in the Square to produce the correct answer across each row and down each column! It’s a fantastic way to also practice basic operation fact fluency with positive and negative integers. The free sample download comes with 2 practice worksheets (18 unique puzzles in total!), and complete solutions pages.
