Want to add a twist giving a book report? Try using the French Fry Book Project! Students create French Fry bags with various story elements and a summary, and use yellow strips of paper (french fries) to complete the other project requirements. This is a cute project that can allow all the children in your room to be successful, and read a book on their level. You get the project description with a parent notification signature, and the project rubric. When you open the document it may look like it is missing a few lines. When you print the document, or zoom in, they will appear. Project is on one printable page, but the thumbnails are zoomed and in two slides to be able to read text.

FREE MATH LESSON – “Metric Meter Posters”

by Quinnessential Lessons

4th – 6th Grade

These are a set of seven posters (kilometer, hectometer, dekameter, meters, decimeter, centimeter, and millimeter) – one set in color, the other in black and white.

Print, laminate and hang. These are a great reference for your students when they are tackling metric conversions.

I have also used them during whole group instruction – I pass out all seven posters and then have the seven students get themselves in the correct order at the front of the room. The students that are seated can help if they are having difficulty. Repeat until everyone has had a turn.

Any questions? Don’t hesitate to ask.

FREE SOCIAL STUDIES LESSON – “US President Brain Breaks”

by The Primary Techie

Kindergarten – 6th Grade

This is a fun way to review presidents and get your kids up and movin’ at the same time. Choose movements for your kids to do as they say the name of each president – jumping jacks, punch out, and chair kicks are just a few ideas you can use. There are two speeds to choose from. With “click to advance”, you will control the speed. This is a good one to use if you want to discuss the presidents or just go slowly. If you choose this “auto advance”, transitions happen automatically. This is fun when you are doing the moves with your kids. Just start it and join in the fun!

I LOVE having fun at school! Follow me for more engaging learning tools.

This system is tried and true and works wonders!
I use it in my classroom and LOVE it.

Learn more about this system here Rick Morris’ ebook about the Behavior Clip Chart

Directions:
Print and cut apart the cards.

Attach the cards together (so that they make a long chart) on poster paper and laminate for durability.

Write each child’s name on a clothes pin and clip to the chart. Each child starts the day on the green “Ready to Learn” section every day. Good behavior allows them to move up the chart, while poor behavior choices
cause them to move down the chart.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON – “Character Valentines: Fun for ELA 5-9”

by Spark Creativity

5th – 9th Grade

In this packet, you’ll find everything you need for a fun Valentine’s Day activity that works for any novel. Students will design and deliver valentines from one character to all the rest, then use their favorites to create a lovely display.

General Summary:
Divide students into groups and assign each group a character from the novel. Then give each group a mailbox handout, a box or bag or envelope (to use as a mailbox), a scissors, and the valentines. Each group will create a valentine for every other character from the perspective of their character and then deliver them into the mailboxes. Each group will read the valentines their character received and choose the two they think best reflect the characters’ relationship to share with the class and then hang up on the display.

What’s inside:

Mailbox Cover: Give each group a mailbox cover and have them fill it in with their character’s name. Then let them tape or staple it to the box, bag, or envelope they are using for a mailbox.

Example: You can print this out to show everyone before the activity if you wish. Stress that they are supposed to try to show their understanding of the characters in the novel through what they write on the valentines.

Valentines: There are eight blank valentines for each group. Have students fill in enough for however many characters you are using for the activity. Let students know that not all Valentine’s Day messages will be about love. Plenty of people send valentines to friends or relatives, or even, as in the example, people they don’t like.

Banner Letters: Print out these banner letters to spell “BE MINE”, cut them out, and hang them up on a patch of wall or a bulletin board. Then as each group shares their top two Valentines with the whole class, invite them to hang the pieces up under the banner for a great classroom display.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON – “Reading Log for School or Home”

by Love Learn Teach

1st – 4th Grade

Use this reading log for weekly homework accountability, to track extra reading done by students at home, or even make a booklet for students to use each month or quarter with a reading goal in mind.

Requiring students to write a sentence of reflection after reading helps them to make connections between their reading at home and the lessons learned in class. You may even direct students to write specific types of reflections based on each day’s skill or week’s focus (theme, cause/effect, main idea, etc.).

When I created this reading log, we were struggling with students’ sentence writing skills in our grade level. We used this reflection piece as part of their language arts/writing grade each week to hold students accountable for using proper writing conventions.
