“The Yellow Wallpaper Mini-Unit” is perfect for teaching students to analyze literature in a meaningful way. All of the prep work and thinking has been done for you. This truly is a print-and-go resource. The mini-unit includes 5 lesson plans, an interactive PowerPoint presentation to introduce the story’s historical context, student activities, as well as a detailed answer key. The mini-unit also includes a creative writing piece which allows students to play around with voice and situate themselves within the context of the times.

This lesson is suitable for grades 9 to 12.

The PowerPoint is an interactive presentation with information about the author, the context of the time, notes on feminist literature and its history, information about Weir Mitchell and the rest cure, experts form François Poullain de la Barre’s “The Woman as Good as the Man, and an excerpt from Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s “Émile, or On Education” to help students understand women’s frustrations and the want for change.

The Lesson Plans contain 5 comprehensive lessons, which fully explore this work’s mastery and teaches students to think critically by annotating the work. The lesson plans include journal topics, class discussions, and exit tickets, as well as learning goals for each lesson for students to fully grasp the importance of this work.

The student Activities include an activity on symbolism, an activity on theme, a tutorial on how to develop themes in paragraph form (this is an important skill for ELA students), an example of a developed theme, and a paragraph organizer.

Two copies of the short story are included – a copy of the short story with space for students to annotate the work and an annotated copy for the teacher or for differentiated learning as the case may be. (Provided in Word as well as PDF format to allow you to add your own annotations.)

Two evaluations are also included: (All evaluations are available Word and PDF format to suit students’ needs.)

· One evaluation is a creative writing assignment where students assume the voice of a man during the 1890’s responding to Mary Wollstonecraft’s views on women’s rights.

· Also included is an analysis evaluation where students must develop one of the themes from the work. (A sample answer is provided with rubric)

A comprehensive answer key is provided for all work.

This unit has been created with the teacher in mind. The material is geared toward senior students with a focus on the construction of arguments. It also teaches the importance of historical context as well as literary allusions in the development of themes.

Directions: Cooperatively in pairs, use one set of ten pennies and ten frame board. First player puts the pennies in his hands behind his back, put some in one hand the rest in the other. Put the pennies from one hand on the ten frame, then, without showing the content of the other hand, ask partner how many he thinks there are. Count the pennies as they are added to the ten frame board to complete ten. Make/Write that addition sentence, or the fact family on the record sheet. This is great practice for facts of ten during math centers.

I love teaching Shakespeare’s plays, and I want you to love it too. I’ve been teaching and improving this unit for over ten years. All of the thinking has been done for you. I love annotating my plays and books. I’ve taken all of the annotations made in my play over the years and incorporated them in a guide to help you guide students and help students understand. Many people (including teachers) get overwhelmed with Shakespeare because of the language. This unit has been created with the student in mind. The activities are thorough, but simple enough for students to understand and enjoy the play.

Each ice cream cone has 3 scoops. Skip count by 3s to find the sum.

Students are asked to skip count by 3s up to groups of 10.

For more advanced students, I recommend having them write a repeated addition and/or multiplication sentence to represent each question.

Simply print on cardstock and scatter in a random pattern on the floor or taped to the wall.
It may be easier for struggling learners to only use a few numbers at a time (3-5).

ROMEO AND JULIET UNIT

This bundled unit has been designed to make life easier for the Language Arts teacher. It contains a teacher guide with detailed lessons, a student guide with all of the notes required by students, an answer key for students’ work, and three evaluations (answer keys and evaluation rubrics included). All you need to do is print and begin teaching.

This purchase includes:

•A comprehensive Teacher guide with 15 detailed lessons (7 pages)

•A student guide with guiding questions and activities (focus on characterization, themes, figurative language, irony, etc…) -10 pages

Do you ever have issues with students who never seem to listen to the directions, even after you have given them 3 and 4 times? I know I have in the past, so I decided to do some listening skills practice activities in order to fine-tune their listening capabilities.

After giving my students a short listening task, I either graded the work (which became an eye opener for some!) or we used it as a teachable mini-lesson on what should have been done better. Sometimes I even rewarded the student who received the best score as an exemplary way to listen and follow directions. The reward usually involved a little extra computer time or maybe being the line leader for the day.

Sometimes we assume that students know how to listen and that if we give directions several times they should be able to hear, listen, and apply. Unfortunately some students need to continuously practice that skill, much like any other curriculum strategy. Following Directions in the Common Core Classroom will not only help your students to be more keenly aware of oral directions, but also help you with expected classroom routines and procedures.

The best part? The activities listed take less than 2 minutes once a week to administer! Have a group discussion after doing to activity, and you are done in under 15 minutes! Want an actual listening center activity? Use the included audio tracks so you don’t even have to be present!

The wheel is divided into four wedges of weather. Each wedge is guarded by a mischievous fairy who will ask the students 3 questions. If they pass they could receive a valuable prize and many life points (which can be tallied on a board for a winner). If they fail these questions then they risk their points and even their life!

A few of the skills covered include: main idea, summary, context clues, author’s purpose and more!

This is interactive and best played on an interactive whiteboard although not required.

The teacher plays the judge and jury. You will decide if they have answered the question to your standards. Then choose the thumbs up or thumbs down to send them on their next leg of their journey.

This free Decimal Place Value Center Activity is the perfect way to practice reading and writing decimals to the thousandths place in standard, word, and expanded form! This resource includes two different versions for easy differentiation.

Ideas for Use:

Print on card stock and laminate for durability. Students can use an expo marker to write over the lamination.
Use as a small group formative assessment
Have students work in partners to check each other’s work.

Product Description

TOW (Thought of the Week) is a great way to get students started in the creative writing process. The teacher can use the writing prompts as a writing activity, a one-time evaluation, or as a semester-long evaluation.

Included is:

• 20 weeks of creative writing prompts (3 different choices per week)

• An instruction sheet for students

• An editable due date sheet (in PDF)

• Three editable evaluation sheets (work process, oral, and writing) in Word for easy modifications.

I’ve used these prompts for years now, and every year I’m surprised at how much students enjoy this activity. I thought that it was time I shared.

Looking for a fun and engaging way for little ones to recall numbers 1-10, count with 1:1 correspondence and recall letters and sounds?

Why not a game of roll, say, keep…that is FREE!!

My boys watch me make games and centers for my class all the time and always put in their ‘requests!’ They are all about the new ‘building blocks’ movie that is coming out AND have a love and ‘need for speed!’ So I created these 2 games for them to practice numbers and letters. They have been having a blast playing them that I couldn’t help but share!

Perfect for PreK and K review!
