*K-2 will read and learn words as they use their fine motor skills to trace these high frequency words.

Set 1: Create a mini word wall, or use these as flash cards for your literacy center. These cards are approximately 3 x 5 inches—small enough to use as flash cards, and large enough to create a mini word wall at a literacy center.

There are many blank cards in this set, so you can write in words with a marker for extra words—especially as you teach and need them posted. These words are derived from the Dolch and Fry lists of high frequency words. (Idea: Students can color the apple on each card once they have successfully read the word.)

Set 2: The tracing cards will help those who need fine motor practice for handwriting. They also help reinforce both reading and spelling of the words.

IDEAS FOR USE:

1. Make a word wall: Print on colored paper if you want more color on your walls. If desired, make two sets of a category (For example: days, months, colors, numbers).

2. Flash cards: Break these words up into smaller groups of flash cards.

3. Spelling: See and say the words, then write them. Use no more than 10 – 20 at a time for a writing/spelling center.

4. Alphabetize words: Practice arranging/writing in ABC order, using 10 words at a time.

5. Matching Game: Duplicate any pages, and use the two sets for a matching game. Duplicate no more than 12 cards at a time to make it manageable.

6. Tracing cards: These help fine motor practice, handwriting, and reinforce spelling. Students color the pencil once they have finished the tracing. Kids love tracing the words in a little booklet. They can go on rings or staple several together at a time. Add more as they progress.
