This free math packet comprises 4 worksheets for skill practice using dice:
Addition to 12
Addition to 18
Subtraction from 10
Subtraction from 20

A recording sheet is included. Coloring the stars adds more fun to the exercise. The math activities in this packet support the development of the following concepts: addition and subtraction within 20; addition strategy of counting on; the meaning of the plus, minus and equal signs; commutative property of addition (3+5=5+3).

This activity could be played in a pair or small group. Each player has their own worksheet. Taking turns, if a roll doesn’t match any remaining numerals, move on to the next player’s turn. The first person to color all their stars is the winner.

And this free lesson, “CLIFFORD, THE BIG RED DOG CRAFTIVITY…AFTER READING THE STORY”, provides the primary age children with an introductory experience in my LanguageART approach to teaching…in which art and literature work together. After hearing the teacher read the story of Clifford, the Big Red Dog, and discussing the story, the students will then enjoy a simple cut and paste project. They will learn many basic art skills, have a chance to add creative details of their own, and of course have fun! This project can be used in the art room, classroom, or as a home school activity. This is a blank template I use often in my classroom during math activities, or as a kind of group exit slip or diagnostic to see if students can spot the error. This resource includes both the powerpoint version (so you can add textboxes over top of where you wish to add your information), or the PDF – which is what I use. I simply project the PDF onto the whiteboard and we use our whiteboard markers to write in the boxes. You can also print and use the blank PDF and use a center or a guided math activity.

I use this activity as reinforcement/review when I see an error commonly happening in the classroom. I can quickly pull up the template (which I have as a shortcut on my computer desktop) and write in the question and incorrect solution. I ask students to look at the incorrect solution, find and circle the error on the board, and then model the correct solution on the right hand side.

The construction and analysis of magic squares provides practice in mental arithmetic, operations with numbers, geometry, and measurement plus it encourages logical reasoning and creativity, all in a game-like setting. Furthermore, they are a powerful tool for teaching students basic addition skills since each row, column, and diagonal must add up to be the same sum.

The three letters of this 10 page free resource are solved in a similar way. Number tiles are arranged in such a manner that the sum of the tiles that form each straight line of the letter equal the same sum. The designated sum for the letter is written on each page as well as the number tiles to be used. Most of the three letter puzzles have more than one answer; so, students are challenged to find a variety of solutions.

The activities require that the students use each number tile only once. However, some of the activities will not require the use of all ten tiles; so, reading and following the directions before beginning each math-a-magical puzzle is important. Answer recording sheets are provided for the student as well as possible solutions for the teacher. A Number Tile Keeper in addition to a blackline of the number tiles is located at the end of this 10 page resource.

This activity is designed to give student the opportunities to explore addition fact family sets from 1 – 10. This cute owl activity is an ideal way for students to practice their basic number facts.

Included in this product are:
Owl Nest Player Cards (1-10), 2 Sets of Egg Number Cards, 1 Nest Ten Frame & Egg Counter Cards.

Game 1:
Place the Owl Nest Cards & Egg Number Cards on the table. Players choose a nest. They find two egg cards that they can add together to make the number on the nest.
They record their number work on the recording sheet. Students record 5 fact family nests.

Game 2:
Give each player a Nest Ten Frame and a set of Egg Counter Cards. Place the Owl Nest Cards face down on the table. Students pick an owl nest card. They use the egg counter cards to explore how to make that number on the ten frame – ‘how many red and blue eggs can you add together to make X?’.
“I used _____ red and ______ blue eggs’. Students record their fact families on the recording sheet. Students repeat this activity 5 times.

The Common Core for 4th Grade states that students should be able to “find all factor pairs for a whole number in the range of 1-100” … and “determine whether a given number in the range of 1-100 is prime or composite.”

This Finding Factors Freebie is what I use to teach my 4th graders how to find all the factors of “Today’s Number” which is a routine we do as part of my SMARTBoard Math Calendar. Today’s Number is always whatever day of school it is, and we make an organized factor list, starting with 1 and the number. My students become experts on prime and composite numbers, as well as the difference between factors and multiples, thanks to this daily repetition.

I put together this resource to use with the two companion texts: “Creepy Carrots” and “Muncha! Muncha! Muncha!” I find that students can make text-to-self connections quite easily, but need scaffolding and support sometimes to make text-to-text connections. These venn diagrams are designed to support the students to make text-to-text connections.

“Pencil Pen Crayon Marker” is a fun center activity that can be used at the Writing Center, Sight Word Center, Word Work Center, and many other places.

This is a fun way to practice writing sight words, friends’ names, spelling words, and word families.

This FREE. STUDENT DIRECTED creative writing lesson plan increases fluency and is fun. It is a perfect beginning of the week activity to wake up the writing juices, or to use when there is extra time left and you have nothing to fill it with. Students really enjoy speed writing!

The Lesson Plan includes:

1. Instructions on how to use the lesson plan
2. The writing process steps for teaching the plan
3. An Idea Organizer that taps into the student’s personal bank of knowledge
4. A paragraph organizer that guides the students through writing the introduction, body, and conclusion
5. Two scoring guides (one includes the six traits of writing) so students know what the expectations are, how they will be evaluated, and allows them to grade their own papers before turning it in for the final teacher evaluation.

6 Reading passages covering the Frontier, Frontiersmen, Davy Crockett, Texas Independence, the Alamo and more. Classroom and enrichment activities keep students engaged as they learn. A game of BINGO rounds out this lesson by reviewing new concepts and vocabulary words in an enjoyable way. Great for substitute teachers, homeschool, and co-ops.

In the early part of the 1800s, land west of the Mississippi River was complete wilderness. This land consisted of rivers, mountains, forests and prairies and was occupied by Native Americans and wild animals. The frontier was the name given to the wild and unfamiliar land that lay west of civilized America. Davy Crockett was a Frontiersman and was present at the 1836 Battle of the Alamo.

Living or Non-Living? Let your students decide with these phonics-based science worksheets. If your students are learning to decode CVC words, you can help them use those words on a “real world” level by sorting living and non-living objects on a reading level they can handle. Students can learn vocabulary, decoding skills, and science concepts all at the same time!
