Pre-Kindergarten – 12th Grade

This set of free leisure mini-schedule visuals is great for students with autism and those with behavioral issues to help keep students engaged in summer months and to structure recess and free time in school. This free download includes directions for assembling the board and ideas for implementation.

Many students benefit from having the larger activities of their scheduled day (e.g., reading) broken down into smaller components. We use this strategy frequently for students with behavioral issues to help them understand what is expected before they earn reinforcement or a break. For some students mini schedules help ease the anxiety they might feel about what is going to happen next so they can focus on what is happening now. For others, it helps them see the end of tunnel of doing what you want them to do instead of what they want to do. For some it helps them to navigate the larger activity independently. In this post I want to focus on the type of mini-schedule we often use for activities to help students who struggle with challenging behavior to be able to manage in the activity successfully. Mini-schedules also help to keep students engaged in activities, whether they are structured activities or free time activities like recess.

The students will also create an original piece of art and determine the symmetry in their own artwork. Each worksheet asks students to find different words using the letters of a larger word/phrase. After finding 10 words, the student writes a story using the words they have found.

Among the worksheets are: Happy New Year, April showers, Happy Earth Day, summer time, and many more! I’ve even included a blank template for you to have students write in their own word.

FREE MATH LESSON – “Regrouping Using American Money”

Regrouping is a difficult concept for some children to understand. Using manipulatives helps, but I find that using money makes it easier for the children to visualize the exchange of ones, tens and hundreds.
It also connects them with real examples of Math in their world.

When referring to trading ones for tens and tens for hundreds, I tell the students that they need to go to the bank. They need to deposit their pennies and get a dime or deposit their dimes and get a dollar.

When referring to changing a ten into ones, I use the analogy of going to the bank and trading a dime for 10 pennies.

These FREE syllable spelling activity pages are made for children to practice segmenting their spelling words to become a better speller, and ultimately a better writer. You can use these with any spelling list. Students will write their spelling words syllable-by-syllable, and then write the whole word. I include pages for every month, as well as a spelling “bee” page that can be used at any time! I also include color & black and white pages. I use the color pages in plastic sleeves with dry-erase markers. The black and white pages are great for entire class use, or just as an ink saver!

Learning sight words is such an important part of learning how to read. So make it fun!

There is NO PREP needed.

This freebie contains 5 sight words: would, very, your, its, around

Each page features a single target sight word with the following activities:

1. Read it Students will read the specified sight word aloud. This will help them build connections between the spoken and written word.

2. Trace it Students will trace the specified sight word three times. This will help them practice good penmanship.

3. Color it Students will color in the specified sight word. This will help them pay attention to each letter and its shape.

4. Find it Students will find the specified sight word in a group of 12 sight words. This will help them practice and recognize the specified sight word. (They will also get to review the previous sight words at the same time.)

5. Write it Students will write the specified sight word independently on the lines. This will help them practice their handwriting skills.

6. Fill in the missing letters Students will solve and fill in the missing letters. This will help them remember the spelling of the sight word.

7. Build it Students will cut and glue letters in the provided boxes to correctly build the given sight word. This will help them consolidate their memory of the sight word and practice their motor skills.

These flip cards have been a huge help in managing my class during independent work, group work, and even tests! These colorful cards help me quickly scan the room for students that need help.

When my students have a question, I want them to continue doing what they can while they wait for me to become available. Each student has a flip card that starts face down on their desk. Instead of raising their hands when they have a question, students flip their “I Need Help!” card, colored side up. They know that I will help them when I can, and in the meantime, they can stay focused on the task.

Our family uses a combination of phonics and sight words to learn how to read. Sight words include the most commonly used words in the English language that should be learned by simply memorizing them rather than sounding them out.

We use the Dolch word list for learning sight words. It’s the most commonly used way to learn sight words and has extensive research backing up its effectiveness!

The Dolch sight word list contains the 220 most commonly used words in English that should be learned as sight words. Between 50% to 80% of words found used in textbooks, library books, newspapers, and magazines are on the Dolch word list! That means that if your child learns the full list, they can already read over half of the words in every book!

Dolch Sight Word Posters

This free printable includes cute 5 posters containing all 220 of the Dolch sight words. They’re perfect for printing on nice cardstock and laminating to hang in your homeschool space.

The 5 sets should be taught in order. Based on the research, each set is ideal for a specific grade level.

Preschool: Set 1
Kindergarten: Set 2
1st Grade: Set 3
2nd Grade: Set 4
3rd Grade: Set 5

Of course, the one-on-one attention from homeschooling makes our kiddos so brilliant that you can definitely move on to the next set earlier if your child is ready!
