Celebrate St Patrick’s day this year by going on a clover hunt!

Your class will love folding and assembling this teeny-tiny-one-cut booklet that’s filled with facts about shamrocks and clover…. (e.g. you probably know that 4 leaf clovers are quite rare, but did you know that the world record for the most leaflets on a clover is 56?!!) After assembling and illustrating your pages, head outside to find a clover leaflet to complete your booklet. May the ‘luck of the Irish’ be with you this Saint Patrick’s day!

Looking for other outdoor resources? You might want to have a peek at these:

FREE SCIENCE LESSON – “Microsoft Word Game”

by MrsTech

1st – 4th Grade

This is an activity that I used in my Elementary Tech classes to refresh what we learned last year about Microsoft Word basics.

Directions: Students will start with their name on their computer. They will then rotate every 30 seconds to answer one of the following questions that I call out. Think of this as a teacher directed game of SCOOT. If you have older students, you could also print these out as task cards. The students will have a good time laughing at their “Fake About Me” when they get back to their seat. After a quick refresher of where to locate the following items, I had the students change fonts, colors, and sizes of text as well as adding pictures of the items in their lists.

This is a cute project that can allow all the children in your room to be successful, and read a book on their level. You get the project description with a parent notification signature, and the project rubric. When you open the document it may look like it is missing a few lines. When you print the document, or zoom in, they will appear. Project is on one printable page, but the thumbnails are zoomed and in two slides to be able to read text.

FREE SOCIAL STUDIES LESSON – “US President Brain Breaks”

by The Primary Techie

Kindergarten – 6th Grade

This is a fun way to review presidents and get your kids up and movin’ at the same time. Choose movements for your kids to do as they say the name of each president – jumping jacks, punch out, and chair kicks are just a few ideas you can use. There are two speeds to choose from. With “click to advance”, you will control the speed. This is a good one to use if you want to discuss the presidents or just go slowly. If you choose this “auto advance”, transitions happen automatically. This is fun when you are doing the moves with your kids. Just start it and join in the fun!

I LOVE having fun at school! Follow me for more engaging learning tools.

FREE Clip Chart Behavior Management System – Cute Polka Dots

This is my version of the Oh-So-Popular “Clip Chart Behavior Management System” to match my Polka Dot Theme.

This system is tried and true and works wonders!
I use it in my classroom and LOVE it.

Learn more about this system here Rick Morris’ ebook about the Behavior Clip Chart

Directions:
Print and cut apart the cards.

Attach the cards together (so that they make a long chart) on poster paper and laminate for durability.

Write each child’s name on a clothes pin and clip to the chart. Each child starts the day on the green “Ready to Learn” section every day. Good behavior allows them to move up the chart, while poor behavior choices
cause them to move down the chart.

Check my store for forms that give
daily behavior reports to parents!

I’m sorry I cannot offer an unsecured/editable version of this product due to the terms of use of the clip art used and other copyright issues. Thank you for understanding.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON – “Winter Break Reading Challenge”

by Stress-Free Teaching

Kindergarten – 5th Grade

Motivating students to read during vacation can sometimes be a challenge. Why not challenge students to see how many snowmen they can build over vacation while reading?

Here’s how it works:
X minutes of reading = one part of a snowman.
Students cut out and glue the snowball body parts onto the page.
Optional details can be added to completed snowmen.

Included in this resource:
Student directions
February break challenge sheet (where the snowmen will go)
Winter break challenge sheet (in case your vacation isn’t in Feb.)
Snowman body parts
Hats, scarves, carrots, and arms that can be used to decorate each snowman.
Black and white or color images – Print only the pages you want.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON – “Reading Log for School or Home”

by Love Learn Teach

1st – 4th Grade

Use this reading log for weekly homework accountability, to track extra reading done by students at home, or even make a booklet for students to use each month or quarter with a reading goal in mind.

Requiring students to write a sentence of reflection after reading helps them to make connections between their reading at home and the lessons learned in class. You may even direct students to write specific types of reflections based on each day’s skill or week’s focus (theme, cause/effect, main idea, etc.).

When I created this reading log, we were struggling with students’ sentence writing skills in our grade level. We used this reflection piece as part of their language arts/writing grade each week to hold students accountable for using proper writing conventions.

Are Your Kids Using Too Much Digital Media?

In a long, cold winter, there’s a whole lot of digital viewing going on! Probably too much!

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recently changed its digital media standards for children. (You can read about the new guidelines on my Reading Spotlight Blog (www.readingspotlight.com/blog/)

Do not underestimate the importance of human touch and interaction! Why not send home a gift of Reading Bingo Games for students to work on decoding words in short, enjoyable sessions with their parents and/or siblings?

A small cost for big rewards! Something different, something fun, something helpful for beginning/struggling readers in grades 1- 5, something short for tired and busy parents.

Kids will get some individual extra practice that you simply cannot provide in your busy classroom. Reinforce your lessons, or send home games with specific skills that need development for specific students. The ½ price TpT site license makes sending home copies easy.

This is a win—win—win–situation for students, parents, and their teachers! There are many Bingo games at my TpT Store: Reading Spotlight. Just call me The Bingo Lady! The games are clear, simple, and easy to use. Here are just a few:
