FREE MATH LESSON – “Mean Median Mode and Range Math Game | Math Activity | Truth or Dare”

by Cognitive Cardio Math
5th – 6th Grade

Print, copy, cut and play this mean, median, mode, range game – a math version of truth or dare!

With 36 question cards, this easy-prep game offers students a choice of question types – a “truth,” which is a true or false question addressing vocabulary or more basic mean, median, mode and range questions; or a “dare,” which addresses more difficult MMMR questions. The different cards have different point levels for students to earn. They record their answers and points on their recording sheets.

Have you checked out the Mean, Median, Mode and Range Activity Bundle? Several activities and a bit of savings!

Great to play in groups of 3 – 4, but group size can vary….the smaller the group, the more questions each student will answer. Also great as a center activity.

Check out this video to see how this math game works.

Questions require students to:

  • Identify correct methods for finding mean, median, mode, range
  • Find mean, median, mode, range, given data set
  • Find missing numbers in data set, given other data points and measure of center
  • Identify outliers

This easy-prep activity includes:

  • Detailed directions
  • 36 cards (with and without background)
  • Recording sheet
  • Answer key

Check out more Truth or Dare Math Games, including the Google Truth or Dare versions and the online Truth or Dare games on my site – these are super easy to use. They use the same questions as the paper/pencil and Google versions, but the Dare questions are multiple choice:-)

More truth or dare games can be found here

For additional MMMR practice, your students might like Mean, Median, Mode & Range Footloose or MMMR Color by Number (also a freebie).

Spelling Flip Book

Description

The Spelling Flip Book is designed to help young learners become familiar with spelling rules and to incorporate them into their work.

Students can color and personalize their flip books to enhance the spelling learning experience.

I always like encouraging my students to use their flip books as reference sheets when they are working to promote good spelling habits. The goal is that eventually, by using the flipbook when working, the student will begin to remember common errors made in the past and correct them. I have had much success with this strategy in my classes.

I’ve also included a color copy and an answer key – a total of 18 pages.

Improve your students’ listening and speaking skills with this fun and engaging activity which aims to improve speaking clarity and listening comprehension while also providing them with a memorable lesson almost guaranteed to have them crying with laughter!

This is one of my very favorite teaching activities! Give it a try…i guarantee your students will love it! I have taught it to ESL/ELL students aged from 5 to 75 in multiple countries and it always works really well. I think it would also work really well in public schools; either for art or for English for younger learners. I hope you like it, too!

Mulitple worksheets and activities to pre-teach important vocab

Multiple matching activity worksheets are included in order for you to help students overcome any blocking words. There is a focus on body parts and shapes and is a good recap for young learners/ELL/ESL students.

Practice and Strengthen students speaking and listening accuracy

Students work in pairs to describe and draw a monster. One student can see the monster printout and has to describe accurately and in details what they can see. The other has to listen very carefully so that they are able to create a copy of the drawing.

This activity always has students roaring with laughter. A very popular activity and one which is both fun and has real educational benefit!

The Giver Game Bundle for Chapter Review

Description

The Giver Game Bundle – A perfect addition to any novel unit!

According to research, using games when teaching increases student participation, comprehension, as well as fostering emotional and social learning.

Today’s 21st- century student needs to be fully engaged in learning to gain knowledge and then apply it in meaningful ways. Many teachers find that traditional comprehension questions are not engaging and often do not reinforce understanding. Both teacher and student often find answering the traditional chapter questions tedious and uninteresting.

Help your students fully engage with Lois Lowry’s “The Giver” by incorporating these short, fun games into your unit.

Each game includes quality questions that check the student’s understanding and are varied to include:

❒ Important vocabulary and terms

❒ Symbolism

❒ Irony

❒ Foreshadow

❒ Literary elements

❒ Plot

❒ Characters

❒ Themes

❒ Quotes

❒ Everything you would ask in traditional comprehension questions

The breakout rooms include clues and answer keys for the teacher. The teacher can give students hints if they struggle in their quests.

The games created are interactive, engaging, and varied to maintain student interest. Each game includes a different theme with different challenges. Some games have game-show quiz-style questions, while others are like mini breakout rooms. Even better, the games require no preparation for the teacher. Other than an internet connection, nothing else is required! Merely share the game link with students, and they’re off to work independently. The games also inform students of the correct answer to all questions, so they will learn the necessary information before moving on to subsequent material.

Students can play these games as a group or individually. Create a class challenge to see who can complete the games in less time. The possibilities are endless! These games are also a great way to engage students in learning online.

The activities will take 5 to 20 minutes, depending on the game and the student’s abilities.

I love doing this activity at the beginning of my lessons to review the previous chapter, facilitating discussions and class activities.

The bundle includes  23 games and 320 questions in total!

The games can be played on any PC, laptop or tablet, Smartphone, Mac, or Chromebook. Anything that can access the internet can be used to access the games.

FREE MISC. LESSON – “Friendship Video: Bullies Can Change”

by Rainbow City Learning
3rd – 6th Grade

This sweet friendship video can be shown to your students, helping them to see a brighter path to true friendship!

What she had to say blew us away! This awesome girl believes that bullies can change – everyone has the ability to turn negative attitudes into light. And these fourth graders believe we should always look for the best in our friends to begin with. The best social attitudes ever from our students to yours!

This song was picked out by my student as a favorite. She was so taken with the lyrics and music, she insisted on teaching it to her classmates! I just happened to have my camera ready to capture the enthusiasm. We hope our little video inspires your own students to become the best friends they could ever be!

The Giver Chapter 20 Breakout Style Review Game

Description

The Giver Review Game for Chapter 20 is the perfect addition to any novel unit!

The review game for chapter 20 includes 22 quality and varied questions that reinforce students’ understanding.  Questions asked are based on:

❒ Symbolism

❒ Irony

❒ Foreshadow

❒ Literary elements

❒ Plot

❒ Characters

❒ Themes

❒ Quotes

❒ Everything you would ask in traditional comprehension questions

Students will answer questions to review the chapter in this Fair Breakout Game.  Answer the questions correctly, dunk a clown, win a game booth-style horse race, beat the timer, and find the answers in a spooky mystery room. With every room, students win a stuffed animal they add to their fair map.  Collect them all and breakout out of the fair.  Everyone wins when they are learning and having fun!

This carnival-themed breakout review game provides a teacher guide and answer key.

The activities will take 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the game and the student’s abilities.

I love doing this activity at the beginning of my lessons to review the previous chapter, facilitating discussions and class activities.

The games can be played on any PC, laptop or tablet, Smartphone, Mac, or Chromebook. Anything that can access the internet can be used to access the games.
