FREE MATH LESSON – “Number Counting Match Cards”

These number matching flashcards are great for teaching beginning learners(preschool/kindergarten). Included in this set are 8 pages to print and cut. There are 4 cards per-page just numbers 1-10. I would suggest printing them on card stock, and even laminating them.

Directions:

Print and cut out each card (cardstock works well). Mix the cards up and have your child/student match the written number to the card with the corresponding number of pencils.

You can also place all the cards facedown and have your child play “matching.” Each player takes turns turning over two cards. If they match, the player can keep the cards. The player with the most matches at the end wins.

Students use Five Frame cards to decompose numbers. The cards are moved around to show various combinations. When children feel confident of their combinations, they write them on a recording sheet.

Directions for creating five frame cards from index cards are included as well as an optional template that can be used to create the cards.

In this fun game, students race against their opponent to solve one step equations. Each student has a set of the same problems, while they share one writing utensil. Players take turns completing problems and rolling a die. One player completes as many problems as they can before their opponent rolls a one and wins the pencil. Play continues until one player completes all of the problems on his/her sheet.

Addition Tic-Tac-Toe Math Center are designed to give students practice with 3-digit addition without regrouping.

Students work with a partner to play tic-tac-toe with a twist. Each space on the tic-tac-toe board is marked with an addition problem. In order to cover the space, the student must correctly solve the problem and find the card with the matching solution to claim the space. Traditional tic-tac-toe rules apply. To win, a student must get 3 in a row or 3 in a column or 3 diagonally.

This is a set of four high-resolution photographs of petroglyphs found near Arches National Park, Utah. I guarantee that they were taken by me and that they may be used commercially without worry about violating copyright.

Every year I have a few students who have trouble answering comprehension questions. I found that it is mostly because they don’t understand the first word of the question (or they went too fast and didn’t pay attention to it!) I’ve spent a lot of time this year discussing what type of answers they should have for a ‘who’ question, ‘where’ question, etc. I created a few posters to help my kids and wanted to share them in case someone needed help with the same thing! We talk about if the ? starts with ‘Who’, then their answer will be a person or character. I’ve also been having them write their answers to EVERYTHING using complete sentences. I’ve taught them how to use the question to make their answers. This has also helped them answer questions correctly. I’ve included two worksheets for this at the end.
