Often when you ask children how they show their love to others, they respond with a hug or a kiss. This free resource includes a poem which makes the point that showing your love to others is taking your eye off yourself and putting it on someone you care about. It allows for a great discussion. Children learn that there are many ways to show people that you love them. The poem in this packet describes some everyday ways to do this. It gives students the opportunity to think about, draw or write about ways that they can show their love to others.

This free packet of adorable Valentine Math and Reading Activities will provide fun and excitement for your PreK-2nd grade classes. In the sight words Valentine heart puzzle, students will color various site words from the Common Core a specified color. On the number recognition activity, students will connect the numbers from 1 to 20 in a dot to dot that produces a Valentine heart. On the initial sounds activity, students must identify the initial sound of the given picture and write it in the box to produce a secret message of “Be My Valentine”.

While the free packet contains 3 activities to give you a sample, the same concepts are extended with 6 more acitivites in another Valentine packet. I LOVE using literature circles in my classroom. The only trouble I had with them was making sure every group was working and on task. I created this Lit Journal to help me keep my students accountable for their time. Now I can pull a small group and not worry about whether or not the other groups are on task. When the time for literature circles is up, I have them bring me their journals and I glance at them immediately so there is instant feedback. They each have their own 3 ring binder to keep their sheets in. This way, they can flip through and look at all the books theyÃ¢ï¿½ï¿½ve read. The cover sheet can slide in the front of each binder so the kids can easily pick theirs out. The Ã¢ï¿½ï¿½ARÃ¢ï¿½ï¿½ blank is for them to write how they did on the Accelerated Reader test. I hope you enjoy these and find them very useful!

Here’s a quick way to focus the class before a session of independent reading or writing workshop. The Reading Record-Status of the Class sheet helps you track student independent reading accountability or independent writing workshop time.

Use the Status Check twice a week as a motivator and a reminder that reading is expected and it matters and that independent writing time is for making progress. Record books a student has completed, and focus in on those struggling readers who may need some modification. The Status of the Class Sheet is perfect for the homeschooler or any grade level requiring independent reading or independent writing workshop time.

This versatile resource is a great addition to any teachers math toolkit. They can be used year on year across different age groups and we have found kids of all ages have loved using them.

Print, cut and laminate the traffic light and the number cards, selecting the cards within the number range your kids are working within 0-20, 0-50 or 0-100. Explain to children that green means go and red means stop. Choose two numbers and place one on the green go light and the other on red stop light. Talk about which number is bigger and then discuss whether you need to count forwards or backwards.

Example:

Green 8 and Red 23 – Kids are counting forwards/up

Green 56 and Red 12 – Kids are counting backwards/down

This resource also works really well as a math centre activity as a paired or independent task . Put the number cards in an envelope for children to take out and place on the traffic light. They can then count aloud to their partner or record the numbers on a whiteboard.

Are your students struggling in the classroom? Difficulty processing visual information can lead to problems with reading, spelling, handwriting, math, and comprehension. These no prep, free spot the difference pictures are great for small groups, occupational therapy activities, morning bell work, stations, and classroom early finishers. Use these fun and engaging spot-the-difference visual perceptual activities to help your students improve their reading and writing skills.

This is a free sample of my visual perception spot the difference resources. It contains one color board for Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. Each page includes an answer key. Full resources include BW versions and several different boards for each theme.

To save ink and paper consider printing and laminating color copies. Another option is using Easel by TpT. I have created an interactive version of this resource you can assign to your students within your digital classroom. Once you purchase the resource you will have access to both the PDF and Easel files.

OT Tip: Difficulty processing visual information and poor visual-motor coordination skills can lead to problems with reading, spelling, handwriting, drawing, math, and comprehension. Visual perception is the skill needed for a child to make sense of what they see. Help their brains interpret and organize the information they are taking in throughout their day with engaging activities. Work on visual perceptual skills with activities like matching, spot the difference, sorting, directed drawing, word searches, I-spy, and mazes.

These flash cards work like traditional flash cards except instead of using plain ol’ text, they use interesting, colorful, funny images and animations to teach your students the meaning of academic word roots.

How does it work?

You show an image or animation to the class, and students mentally connect that image or animation to a Latin root.

For example, you might show a slide with an image of water pouring from a faucet. Students look at the image and think, “Water, …aqu!” They associate the water with the Latin root aqu. A meaningful and lasting mental connection is made.

I’ve used this mnemonic tool many times with middle school English and Science classes. The students enjoy it and it works.

Why is it important?

Latin roots are word parts that have meaning. They are the building blocks of thousands of English words. Benevolent, malicious, amorous, aquifer, magnitude, migration — the list goes on an on — all of these words contain Latin roots.

Knowledge of word roots and their meaning is important and useful for our students because it gives them the ability to decode the meaning of unfamiliar words in a variety of situations.

Why use these flash cards?

There are three, research-proven components to memorization, and this tool covers all three:

1. Teach to multiple sensory modalities.

2. Information is remembered best if it is interesting or useful.

3. New information is easier to remember if it can be linked to something already stored in the memory bank.

These flash cards have a distinct advantage over traditional flash cards in that they are BIG. You can use them with the whole class at once. You can also set them up at a center or classroom computer and have students rotate through individually.
