These reading passages are from my complete and comprehensive immigration unit (link below) . The passages focus on why people immigrated to American in the 1700s and 1800s. The passages are written at two different difficulty levels so you can differentiate as needed and each passage includes the same set of comprehension questions. The passages are appropriate for students in grades 1-5 depending on their reading level.

You choose the problem to assign to your students and the standard to address. The students use the thinking bubble, to make a plan or draw a picture. They use the other rectangles to write the equation and solve it, show how they checked their work, and last of all to explain their work and their thinking. This helps students dive deep into the mathematical concept or working through problems with perseverance. It’s great to use for homework or group work. You can project it on the whiteboard to show the process of problem solving. You can also use it for assessments and performance tasks.

They are expected to provide longer written answers. Still, we have reluctant writers in our classrooms. We have times when we need to give our upper elementary students a reminder about the importance of providing text evidence as support for their statements. I have used this activity as bell work, homework, and this year, I have also sent it home as part of my students’ ELA summer work requirements. This particular packet is a freebie so that you can see just how helpful Prove It or Lose It activities will be in your classroom! This literacy center idea is great for kindergarten, first grade, special education, and intervention. There are 18 compound words. Students put the pictures in this order first word, second word, compound word. The words included are basketball, butterfly, armchair, earring, fireman, mailbox, jellyfish, rainbow, pancakes, snowman, toothbrush, treehouse, sunglasses, doghouse, fishbowl, football, lipstick, cupcake.
Print and laminate and you will be able to use these for years. If some pieces are lost or damaged – no problem! Just go to your My Purchases page (you may have to log in) then download the product again for free and print what you need.
A recording sheet is also included so that students may draw the first word, the second word, and the compound word for 4 compound words.
An assessment sheet is included on which the students will draw word one, word two, and the compound word for 5 of the compound words that he has put together by matching the cards.

This FREEBIE includes mouse number cards 1-10 with corresponding mouse and cookie cards (1-10).
Directions: Use these mouse math number cards for teaching number correspondence, use as examples when teaching, cut in half and glue the corresponding cookie mouse to the number mouse for flash cards, or cut in half and use for a math matching game. There are many uses, so be creative. This is great to incorporate during your “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” literacy unit. These would work well with many of the kindergarten standards, but you can also get creative and use them for math, multiplication, division, and more (just print more sheets).

This effective take-home writing template is simply structured with a line for both the title and the author followed by space for a drawing or diagram and lines for the actual body of writing. It works for pretty much any type of writing (creative, narrative, etc.) and any topic (even math and science!). Bonus points for creative math writing. 🙂

For differentiation, if students cannot completely write their ideas in words, the teacher can assist with the writing while the student focuses on the sketch. Alternatively, students may attempt to write out what they intend to do and the teacher will make the necessary corrections. It’s really up to you! Make it work for your class.

Are your students struggling to know the difference between a lowercase b and a lowercase d? Here is a new strategy to help them remember this tricky letter reversal.

Have students correspond each finger to a letter: a, b, c, d, or e. Students can then visualize the “stick” for either the ‘b’ or ‘d,’ and then see which direction on their hand they have space to make the circle.

Grab our FREEBEE fun, and engaging new year resolution writing prompt. It is a perfect first week of 2021 activity for all age group and kids love the simple concept of turning over a new leaf and the discussions surrounding it.

The resource includes a leaf themed writing activity with four fun prompts along with a follow up worksheet where kids can record their chosen new year resolution in more depth. The download includes options for older/younger children with 4 differentiated versions to chose from. I love to then create a display in my classroom by adding the leaves to our class tree along with a title ‘We are turning over a new leaf in 2021″.
