One thing I know my son can never get enough of is new coloring sheets.

And Christmas coloring sheets that help with practicing counting, number recognition, and one-to-one correspondence? ‘Tis the season!

These Christmas-themed coloring pages cover numbers 1-10. They’re great for kids who are just learning numbers and for kids who already know their numbers but still need practice with counting bigger numbers. Plus, coloring regularly is one of the best ways kiddos can keep building the fine motor strength in their hands that will prepare them for learning handwriting later on.

After my son completes a series of educational coloring sheets like this that all fit into a theme, I like to laminate them, hole punch them, and put them into a binder so that he can continue looking at them and learning. He’s always so much more interested in “studying” a booklet I’ve made him when he helped color it!

Use a pocket chart to help the students put the words in correct order to make a sentence or simply place the cards at a center along with the recording sheets for students to build their words.

This book was inspired by Apple A Day’s behavior management system for December: Run as Fast as You Can to Catch Our Good Choices! This super cute book uses gingerbread characters to assist students in learning and remembering the doubles facts up to 20 while applying these facts within their daily math problems. I listen to the story on youtube (told by its author) or I read it aloud, then we sing a song (plenty of them on youtube). After that we do some crafts, writing (changing the animal or what they find along the way)…

What’s terrific about this picture book is that it introduces children to different nutritious foods (fruit and vegetables) according to their colours. It is also terrific to use as a mentor text to reinforce learning about adjectives.

“Budburra’s Garden” is written and illustrated by the children of Cherbourg in Queensland, Australia. You can find out more about this picture book, including how to purchase it here: http://www.budburrabooks.com.au/budburras-garden.html

It introduces students to traditional fruits and vegetables, but also traditional Australian Indigenous foods. The picture book includes information about the bush tucker found in “Budburra’s Garden” at the back of the book and recipes to “Colour Yourself Healthy”. I really think this is a powerful picture book with the potential to be used on many levels.

• I keep copies at the back table, ready to pull and use each day with students.

104 Calendar pieces for your November pocket chart. Size of daily pieces are 2.5 x 3 inches and will fit standard Calendar pocket charts.

There are 2 sets of calendar pieces included to use in any pattern you’d like to create. On our daily Calendar page, my students draw the corresponding pictures along with the date. I give them brown and red crayons to use and by the end of the month, their calendar looks great!

I have also included medallions for holidays and special days. You can tape the medallion to the upper left or lower right corner of the calendar piece. When the month is done, store them with the other pieces so that next year you can change the dates when you re-use them.

Also, there are extra clipart pieces to make a master pattern for your students to follow.

Don’t be scared to teach your little ones about narrative writing! Here’s a freebie with a chart and two leveled writing frames. Students can draw to organize their thinking. Then they can use the frame to write a narrative that includes details and a reaction. This activity is a treat that will help you teach this tricky standard:

Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to narrate a single event or several loosely linked events, tell about the EVENTS in which they occurred, AND provide a REACTION to what happened.

Need some fun, seasonal practice of odd and even numbers? Print the header cards and number cards in either color or black and white. (If printing in black, print on colored paper for more fun!) I recommend using cardstock to make your cards as durable as possible when laminating.

Use the cards in a pocket chart with the whole class or as a center activity. Place the pumpkins under the correct header.

A cut and paste worksheet is included that can be used as homework, independent practice, or a recording sheet to use with a center.

When printing, make sure to select theoption to scale to fit paper!
