Valentines and Adjectives

Encourage friendship and community in your classes while improving vocabulary at the same time—so much better than those common, perfunctory, pre-printed Valentines! The set includes a Matching Exercise (with KEY) for improving knowledge of adjectives that explore character traits. They are then used as prompts for the blank, individual Valentines that are included. Ideas to make this process easy for busy teachers have also been added.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON – “FREE Daily 5 Check In Freebie Smartboard – Winter Theme”

by Smart Kinder Kids

Pre-Kindergarten – 4th Grade

This colorful Winter inspired Daily 5 Check In SmartBoard is sure to get your kids excited about Daily 5 and will help them to learn how to make choices!

There are five slides to use for check in. You can use just one or use the different colored ones for different days or rotations.

Teachers can track their students’ whereabouts in the room and ensure that all stations are being used and that students don’t repeat stations.
Files can be saved by day, for the week or over the course of the year by using the “Save As” button and saving them by their date. You can also clone the page and add to different color backgrounds for different days of the week or different rotations.

Instructions are given in this file on how to input student names into the boxes. Once you have done this one time, you will have the names to copy and paste throughout the year for all sorts of Smartboards including attendance, lunch count, class graphs, etc. There is also a link to my blog to learn how to do screen shots if you want to learn how to ensure names don’t accidentally come ungrouped.

I do custom orders so if you have a special theme or would like me to enter the names for you please email me at smartkinderkids@yahoo.com

Thanks for checking out my work. Hope you enjoy it! Follow me on my blog at
http://smartkinderkids.blogspot.com/
so you can learn more about using technology in your classroom to advance student learning.

***IMPORTANT NOTE*** Please remember that if you are having technical difficulty grouping, ungrouping, cloning, doing screen shots etc as you start to personalize your files that these are issues you campus technician can help you with or you can email me to help you, however, these are not grounds for leaving a poor feedback. Learning to use Smart Notebook software can be difficult and frustrating at first until you get the hang of it, so please seek out help if you feel something is not working correctly as there is often an easy fix. Thanks!

Please also note – this is a Notebook file for use with Smartboards. I believe there are ways to convert these files to other formats however I do not know how to do this and therefore you would need to ask your campus technician if you are using a different type of board to see if it is compatible.

FREE MISC. LESSON – “Traffic Light Comprehension”

by Runde’s Room

1st – 8th Grade

This file is a poster to help explain the Traffic Light Comprehension strategy to your students. This is a quick assessment tool I use in my classroom where I students place a green dot in the corner of their work if they completed the work without any problems, a yellow dot if they had a few problems, and a red dot if they found the work or concept difficult to understand and complete. This quick self assessment helps me organize student work quickly to see who I need to conference with or provide extra small group instruction. This assessment strategy can be used for all subject areas.

FREE MATH LESSON – “January Calendar Set – Snowflakes FREE”

by Key to Kinders

Pre-Kindergarten – 3rd Grade

62 Calendar pieces for your January pocket chart. I have included Calendar pieces to use in an AAB pattern. On our daily Calendar page, my students draw the corresponding snowflake along with the date. I give them blue and pink colored pencils to use and by the end of the month, their calendar looks great!

I have also included medallions for holidays and special days. You can tape the medallion to the upper left corner of the calendar piece. When the month is done, store them with the other pieces so that next year you can change the dates when you re-use them.

Finally, I have included a pattern key to help your students figure out the next colored snowflake they must draw. In January, my students will be responsible for filling out their journals by themselves (up until now, it has been a large group activity). There are extra small snowflakes and some large ones to help your kinesthetic learners.

Happy Teaching!
