When the storms of life get you down or wash you down the water spout, you need to let the sun dry you out and climb up again! This growth mindset freebie was inspired by Hurricane Michael as I see family and friends recovering from disaster. We should all remember the lesson of the little nursery rhyme, “The Itsy Bitsy Spider.” This poster is an inspirational quote from the Itsy Bitsy Spider himself! You can also project this on your whiteboard (for an inspirational morning message or writing prompt) instead of printing.

Have you ever told your students to take notes and they either highlight almost everything (sometimes even changing colors with their fancy highlighters to make it look like a rainbow pattern) or they take bullet points on everything? Mine used to write pages of bullet points, with no organization or greater understanding of patterns, themes, or bigger ideas. In comes Note-taking Stations!
Did you know that there is a Random Acts of Kindness Week? It runs from February 16 through the 23rd. Actually, this is the first I’ve heard of it, but what a groovy way for all of us to unite by being kind to each other. It begins with one simple act – one hello to a stranger, a simple smile, a pat on the back, a cup of coffee for someone you don’t know, or as my husband experienced, pay it forward. This is a chance for participating individuals to make our world a better one and inspire others to follow suit.
I have been so lucky to have a teacher bestie at every twist and turn in my teacher life, and this post is just a love letter to each of them, and to the universe for placing each of them in my life.
Does a circle have sides? Believe it or not, this was a question asked by a primary teacher. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, but in retrospect, I was stunned. Therefore, I decided this topic would make a great blog post. Discover the answer on my blog.

Black History Month Digital Catalog for Middle School and High School (Grades 7-12)
**This Resource does not contain Freebies; instead it is a Catalog of Dynamic Black History Month Resources from Exemplary TpT Teacher Authors. Browse through some fantastic products conveniently collected in one place! Thank you.**
Black History Month is a time to celebrate the struggles, sacrifices, triumphs and continuing accomplishments of African Americans. Black History is profound and rich and should go beyond the life and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
In an effort to support educators who desire to take their Black History Month Studies beyond MLK, teacher authors from all across the country have put together this digital sampler.
The Black History Month sampler is full of resource links to units of study designed to expose students to a wealth of other influential African Americans. It is our hope these resources will pique students’ interests and lead them on a path of self-reflection where they can pursue independent research and a broader spectrum of such an important subject.
Please check out the links for the other Digital Sampler Books
Add this free graphic organizer, entitled Hovis the Threadmaster, to your resources for teaching Kate DiCamillo’s delightful story. Students begin with what they know about this mysterious minor character and then use their imaginations to add biographical info to explain the elusive mouse’s surprising wisdom and inside information concerning the workings of the castle. A fun opportunity for students to share and compare their Hovis blogs.

Please note that the informational text needed to write this opinion piece about Leap Year is not included in this FREE download.

Read about the Angler Fish, the Clownfish, and the Mimic Octopus! This resource includes informational paragraphs and follow-up questions for vocabulary and sentence writing.
This 3 page sampler contains short factual paragraphs; quick reads… so kids can glean the main facts and key ideas about each animal.
I created these for some of my students who get too stressed when they see long passages. Having less complex text makes it easier for them to read and feel successful.
Use them for independent work, center work, or as a supplement to a unit study on the ocean or ocean animals. These are especially great for summer school or after school mini lessons.
ELA Common Core Standards are listed for second and third grade level expectations.
Consider the priced version if your students were successful with this sampler.

one year “strikeversary”. What a perfect time to reflect and teach our
students to stand up for what is right.
“When it comes to adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers, many students have great difficulty. In reality, it is a very confusing and abstract idea; so, it is important to give the students a concrete visual to assist them in seeing the solution. Find out how I teach this concept to my remedial college math students in my newest blog post. “
This clip chart is used to track students’ progress as they go through the writing process. Students change their clip after conferencing with an adult so that students can work at different paces. This helps with differentiation for writing.
There are three sets of clip charts and they can be used separately or mix and matched. There is black and white chevron, yellow and white chevron, and pink and lime green polka dots. These match my classroom decor sets.
Emotions can carry quite a range, and they all stem from the heart ♥ Celebrating the good, the bad, the positive, and the negative with this freebie Heart Emoji clipart! The Memory Coat book study goes along with an blog post about teaching inference.
This heart-warming book is about families immigrating to America to escape persecution. A young boy lost his parents due to an epidemic and he ends up living with his relatives. His only reminder of his family is the coat his mother made for him. Grisha’s coat is tattered on the outside but beautiful on the inside. This story is about the family’s journey to American and going through the immigration process at Ellis Island.
In this FREE unit, activities include making inferences, vocabulary, and crafts with a coat and suitcase. This unit can go with cultural studies, historic fiction, and family heritage.
