This reading and writing free resource sampler has been created as a way to help 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students explore the range and depth of their feelings and emotions, specifically on how to heal a hurt heart, through the use of poetry. This one (1) poem resource is a perfect tool for teachers, school counselors, parents, therapists, paraprofessionals, group-home personnel, or anyone who works with upper elementary school-aged children.

How It Works: Students practice reading an originally written, focus-based poem either independently, or as part of small group sessions, as a way of helping themselves process any emotional responses they may have when dealing with life’s typical, everyday situations. The poem, “Somehow,” is exactly one page in length. A poem reflection page and lesson extension printable are also included.

Looking for a meaningful and effective way to teach poetry? This unit is a fun way to learn and experiment with figurative language. It uses a mixture of contemporary songs and traditional poetry to teach students about themes and to help them learn the various forms of poetry. The creative, hands on activities also focus on the importance of having a voice and using it properly.

The unit covers subjects such as bullying, courage, standing up for yourself and others, standing up for one’s convictions and discovering what is important to students.

This unit uses poetry to help students have a better understanding of themselves and to stand up for things they believe in.

The files are in PDF format and are zipped for convenience.

-1 set of « I HAVE, Who has? » cards to help students remember figurative language in a fun way. (1 set of instructions for the game)

-A comprehensive teacher guide with 11 complete and detailed lessons (no prep required) – (8 pages) – EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO TEACH THIS UNIT HAS BEEN DONE FOR YOU

-A student package that contains ALL notes, poems, and handouts students will need for the unit (18 pages)

-An end unit evaluation (with detailed evaluation rubrics and step by step instructions for students – one for the written component and one for the oral component). This unit has been conceived with the teacher in mind. It contains a Student Guide, a Teacher Guide, and a comprehensive Answer Key. All you have to do is print the packages and teach them. It’s as easy as that! I’ve also included two different options for end unit evaluations, which both contain evaluation grids and answer key. The unit is, in my opinion, visually appealing and the contents teach analysis of literature.

The Student Guide contain 16 pages:
-Notes on the American Dream
-An anticipation guide
-An in-depth look at success as it pertains to the lives of the students (which can later on be related to the play.)

Christmas Roll, Say & Keep

How to play: cut out the cards and place one card on each square on the mat face up. One child rolls the dice, and has to say the answer of the card on that spot.

If they get it right, they get to keep the card, if it’s wrong, they leave it there. It’s then their partners turn.
Play continues until all the cards have been taken.

I also included a blank set of cards in case you would like to add whatever concept you need at this time with your kids.

They must rewrite the sentences twice: once tracing the words, and the next, copying the sentences. Make sure to reinforce the use of the capital letter and period at the end of the sentence.

ROMEO AND JULIET UNIT

This bundled unit has been designed to make life easier for the Language Arts teacher. It contains a teacher guide with detailed lessons, a student guide with all of the notes required by students, an answer key for students’ work, and three evaluations (answer keys and evaluation rubrics included). All you need to do is print and begin teaching.

This purchase includes:

•A comprehensive Teacher guide with 15 detailed lessons (7 pages)

•A student guide with guiding questions and activities (focus on characterization, themes, figurative language, irony, etc…) -10 pages

As one of their assignments, my college students are required to create a practice test using pre-selected math vocabulary. This activity prompts them to review, look up definitions and apply the information to create ten good questions. Since I want the questions to be more than Level 1 (Remembering) or Level II (Understanding) of Bloom’s Taxonomy, I give them the following handout to help them visualize the different levels. My students find it to be simple, understandable, uncomplicated and straightforward.

This free resource consists of six activities which follow the revised six levels of Bloom’s. (uses verbs instead of nouns). In this freebie, each learning tier uses plane geometry shapes to clarify and explain the level.

Level 1 – Remembering
Level II – Understanding
Level III – Applying
Level IV – Analyzing
Level V – Evaluating
Level VI – Creating

This set is similar to my other phoneme sets, but it is a smaller packet. There are not really many sight words that contain the phoneme /z/ in the initial or medial position. This set is available in my sight word bundle in my store.

In an effort to combine functional/academic activities with traditional
articulation therapy, I decided to start using sight words. I searched through Dolch and Fry sight word lists to find the words I thought were the most important. I tried to avoid words that had too many syllables or blends that might be tricky for children who struggle with articulation.

This resource is a DIGITAL GAME to be played on a DIGITAL DEVICE. It will help children to review digraphs ch and sh. This game can be played on interactive whiteboards, computers, and tablets. An INTERNET CONNECTION is REQUIRED.

This set of digital task cards has 14 different images with words. Each word has missing letters. Students decide if the missing letters on each card are the digraph ch or sh. They click on the correct digraph.

This activity, which includes 14 cards, can be played over and over again and the cards will be shuffled each time! This resource is digital, interactive, paperless, no prep, and self-checking. Each card indicates whether the answer is correct or not. The game is fun and easy to use.

This PowerPoint presentation is a great way to introduce Golding’s Lord of the Flies.

This PowerPoint is devised to contextualize Golding’s novel in order to help students better understand and appreciate the novel.

There are 14 slides in total.

– A short film clip about the war and the fear it evoked
– Information about the story
– Information about Golding’s message
– Information about themes
– Information about the significance of the title
– Group discussion questions to serve as a pre reading guide
– Important elements in the novel

There are no spoilers for students in this presentation. The information prepares them for what they will read in order to better appreciate it and to develop themes later on.

This holiday season (or whenever you want in the year), give students what they really want – some mercy when “life” happens!

These cards might be the easiest holiday gift ever (or back-to-school, new quarter/semester, etc.) Use EITHER the ready-to-print PDF version or the editable file to print, cut, and pass out your own “life” cards, which gives the student a one-day extension on an assignment of his or her choice. These are great for the student who had a printer problem, forgot to do an assignment, or just needs a little more time to do a task right!

The download comes in black and white AND color, as well as versions that say “Life” and “Mercy”.
