FREE MISC. LESSON – “Script: The One Item Mystery Dinner Theater Drama”

Use as a Reader’s Theater or fund raiser for your class or group. Comes complete with 2 scripts and directors notes.

The audience gathers for what they think will be a memorial service for the missionary fondly known as Uncle Buck but ends up trying to save Sadie McCrady (Buck’s niece) and themselves from being swindled by the unscrupulous pawnbroker Harry Sneed. Not only must they solve what ONE ITEM Sadie should choose for her inheritance but they must uncover who is the impostor is.

Plot is broken into 3 scenes. One before dinner, one between dinner and dessert and the last after dessert is served. A sample ending is provided in the event this is produced as a fund raiser for missions. It can be adapted for any occasion as best suits a producer’s individual situation.

We use these cards during our Summer units with Kindergarten and First Grade. Print these on card stock and laminate for better keep. These are great to help with writing, to use as flashcards, or to display in pocket charts.

This pack includes 15 vocabulary words: sun, bucket, shovel, pool, watermelon, beach, sandals, sunglasses, swimsuit, beach ball, water, ice cream, popsicle, mosquito, and sand castle.

The words are printed on lines to guide young writers as they form their letters.

FREE: Opinion Writing: Favorite Playground Activity FREEBIE —

This activity is connected to CCGPS ELACCKW1: Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose opinion pieces in which they tell a reader the topic or the name of the book they are “writing” about and state an opinion or preference about the topic or book. The topic for this opinion writing page is “playground activities.” These opinion writing activities are great to put in a writing center for students to choose which pictures to use to give their opinions about. This includes a title page and 1 page containing picture choices of two playground activities including swinging and sliding. Students tell which they think is the best. The page says “In my opinion (it shows the two picture choices) _____is better because…,” then it has six blank lines for students to write on to tell why they think their choice is the best. Students love telling which item they like the best. This activity encourages students to give the reason why they think their choice is the best. Teachers can also use these writing activities as a whole class activity. Assigning these activities for a homework assignment can include parents in helping increase their child’s writing skills. However you choose to use these activities, I hope your students develop a love for writing.

Should all citizens be required to fight for their country? What does it mean to belong to a country that actively recruits for soldiers or forces them in the draft? What does this mean for the students in your class?

These questions are deep and require reflection. This activity is for high school students to think about what it might mean to be a soldier or called up to fight in the draft.

This can be used for any war or as a pre-war unit activity to get students thinking about what these soldiers endured and sacrificed for their country. I hope you and your students find it interesting and useful to start some poignant, respectful discussions about this topic.

My “draw it, solve it, write the fact” SmartBoard lessons have been so popular, I am posting this addition for free as a thank you to all my customers. The file contains a teacher’s notes page and 11 “draw it, solve it, write the fact” pages. I use the first one for modeling. Each page has a simple addition story problem, an area to “draw it” (drag and drop the graphic set on infinite clone – makes the lesson interactive) and a space to write the fact. Pages can be printed and copied so students record at their seats OR have them solve on slates and place the printed pages in a center for extra practice. Help your K-2 students learn how to solve problems adding 3 numbers (sums are under 20).

You must have Smart Notebook software to open this lesson.

Students throw a die and collect pennies that can be traded for nickels. When 2 nickels are won, they can be traded for a dime. This is great Pre-Writing Organizer to use with beginning writers. The topic or main idea goes in the middle. Then, the three numbered squares are for pictures or sentences about the topic. The fourth square, with the face, is for the picture or sentence about how the topic makes the students feel. It is a great way for students to organize their thoughts. More advanced writers can write paragraphs in each section of the organizer before transferring it to a final draft.

Model while reading aloud and show them how to use these POST-IT note ideas ~ to “talk back to their books”.

I have my students keep these handy
Printables in their Reading Workshop binders to reference during Reading Workshop time. As they read, they use their favorite color POST-IT note to jot down their thinking. Then they keep their POST-IT’s on the organizer provided – and put it in their Reading Workshop binder with the title of the book listed.

FREEBIE ALERT!

If you’re sick of going through boring flashcards, this is a great resource that is quick to play and easy to learn. Students can practice Dolch sight words within the context of a card game. Because each card is labeled with the grade level, it is easy to switch cards from different levels in and out. In this file, you get a page with all the directions (as listed below) and four pages of playing cards that print 12 per page.

To Win: Be the player with the most s’mores at the end of the game.

To Play:
Shuffle cards and place in a single pile face down.
On each player’s turn, choose the top card and read the word. Keep the card.
Continue play until all cards are picked up.
All players see how many complete s’mores they have made (a complete s’more is one of each card: chocolate, marshmallow, graham cracker, and fire).
The player with the highest number of complete s’mores wins.
In the event of a tie, the player with the highest number of words that begin with the letter t is the winner.

Other Ways to Play:
*The first card turned over is the wild card. Whatever type of card that is will be what players try to get the most of to win the game. (For example, if the first card is a marshmallow, then the player with the most marshmallows at the end of the deck wins).
*At the end of the deck, count the number of pairs of matching cards. Each pair counts as one point.
*Shuffle the deck and deal cards out (face down to each player). On each player’s turn, they flip their top card onto the pile and say the word. If the current word is the same card type as the one below it, the first person to say the word and slap the pile gets to take the cards. Continue play until one player has the entire deck. (Similar to playing Slap Jack).

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.1.2c Isolate and pronounce initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in spoken single-syllable words.

♥ This activity was made specifically for those that struggle using a writing tool. There is no writing involved.

This activity packet can be used in regular education as well. The use of VELCRO is highly recommended for these activities. Optional: You can laminate and have the student use a dry erase marker if you choose for your student to use a writing tool.
