This is a great tool to use with students who are learning about a new topic. This KWL chart can be used with a variety of topics. The children fill out what they already know about the topic in the K column. Then, the children write down what the want to know about the topic in the W column. Then, when they are done learning about the topic they write down what they have learned. This graphic organizer is a great tool for teachers to verify learning has taken place.

I am so excited to share my classroom management tools with you. These have changed the way I do reading groups. These work best with a remote clicker or you can take a wireless keyboard to your reading table. I put it on “slideshow” then go to my group. When the class is working on-task, I click to reveal a part of the picture. When they are off-task, I click the back button and they lose a piece of the picture. The kids are motivated to see the picture completed. There is a sound to notify the class that they have earned or lost a piece. These are SO easy to use and it really helps me focus on the kids at my table.

Add these calendars to your math time and teach your students math skills around days, weeks, and months. There are plenty of squares to fill in dates, holidays, and birthdays. Older students can fill in homework, holidays, and activities during the month. Print these calendars to help your students get more organized in their life and activities. Teach students to keep track of events with calendars.

Lesson Plan:
-At the beginning of each Month have your students fill in the calendar with numbers, special days in the month and holidays.

-Decorate the calendar according to the month. Turkeys for November, hearts for February, etc. Each day have students fill in the worksheet page.

Variation:
Print calendars then place them in a sheet protector for use. Write on, wipe off and hang anywhere.

This is a revised freebie!

This “Critter Craze” resource gives your kids a chance to get out of the classroom and be an entomologist. They may find all kinds of bugs, not just insects…but even spiders. Be sure to tell them that entomologists study insects as well as other bugs. While insects do have 6 legs, they may find a spider to write about.

The “jar” graphic allows them the opportunity to draw their many-legged critter. Follow up with a mini research for more information about their new-found specimen.

2 report frames (differentiated) are included.

I hope your kids have a great time with this Critter Craze activity, and perhaps it will be a great jumpstart for writing an insect report.

Have fun with this, but remind students to RELEASE THEIR BUGS back into the wild after studying them.

This is what may be the first in a series of “Adventures” stories. The basic plot is that some special needs students get to enjoy a series of adventures with a little extra help from accompanying parents and teachers.

In this first story they board a big red bus and two vans then journey from Olathe, Kansas, up to Nipigon, Ontario, in Canada, enjoying a series of adventures in sightseeing and learning along the way.

Of course, in the process readers get to learn a lot in regard to general social studies, geography of the U.S. and Canada, cultural differences and appreciation etc.

Besides the story there are ten half page fun, educational word searches (aka wordfinds) and ten full page ones—short ones for younger students in particular, long ones for older students or higher level readers.

This freebie includes five vocabulary posters that supplement the book How to Survive as a Firefly by Kristen Foote (illustrated by Erica Salcedo). The posters include photographs, definitions, and examples of vocabulary words from the book. The posters are also included in a smaller (quarter page) flashcard size.

The included vocabulary words are: metamorphosis, nocturnal, bioluminescence, insect, and predator.These vocabulary resources are useful for inclusion in a science center or as part of a unit on insects or life cycles.

About the Book

How to Survive as a Firefly is an entertaining and educational picture book that combines cartoon-like illustrations, humor, and lots of facts about fireflies. This book is full of tidbits of knowledge that range from simple facts to more complicated scientific details.

This fairy tale readers’ theatre script is especially written for French language learners, with roles for Beginning, Early Transitional and Fluent readers. Reading levels are geared towards French Immersion/Dual Language Grade 1 and 2 students, but could be used with any beginner-low intermediate French Language class.
