TEACHER TIPS:

•Use THIS VOLUME-METER to control noise level in the classroom. I have used this with PRE-K to 2nd graders.

•Recommendations: Print and laminate one volume-meter and an arrow. Stick it on the wall using tape or blue-tack (wall sticky putty) so you can move the arrow. You can also use Velcro or magnetic tape.

•Explain the rules and consequences. I have added an example but use consequences that ***WORK FOR YOUR CLASSROOM*** (time-out/ call parents… whatever works for you…).

•Use it constantly and eventually, you should just point to the arrow or move it slightly for students to quiet down.

Included in this download, you will find 11 FREE blackline end of year award certificates. They look great when they are run on brightly colored paper and/or cardstock. These blackline certificates were specifically made to cut down on the cost of printing in color.

Use red and yellow colored counters and put 10 in a cup or baggie for each child. The children dump out their cup and then record the number of counters that landed on their red side and their yellow side. Then students write a number sentence to represent these results. It’s a great math activity for any time in the year. Enjoy!

This FREE Dots Fun for Everyone 10 page math resource encompasses activities for sorting dominoes, four digit place value, and using division facts. Overall, it contains three different activities and one game that involve finding sums that equal 12. The activities and games vary in difficulty; so differentiated instruction is easy. This resource is also excellent for math center activities.

For these activities, commercial sets of dominoes may be used or you can copy the blackline which is provided in the resource. You should have at least one set of 28 dominoes for every two children.

These activities are appropriate for the visual and/or kinesthetic learner and are appropriate for grades 3-6. They work well for a math center, for differentiated instruction, as well as for introducing or reviewing a math concept.

Many of us work with students who struggle with group collaborative assignments because of their difficulty with social situations. One strategy that I have used to help students participate successfully in small groups is to assign roles explicitly to the participants in the group. These cards provide a fun way of doing it. You can mix them up and have the students draw a card or you can assign the roles depending on what works best for your class. Cut them out and laminate them or leave them as paper and put them folded in a container for students to draw. I’ve left a blank card so you can add roles that you need for your class that I haven’t thought of. Great for students with autism, Asperger’s syndrome, or other special needs.

This resource provides a sort of activity sheet/poster along with 36 manipulatives in card form (I suggest you throw them on a ring or in a plastic baggy, bonus points if you laminate everything for multiple uses, too).

As a poster, this can be hung on the wall as passive reinforcement that you’re a safe person.

As an activity, this provides a way for kids, teens and adults, to identify and communicate their gender. Identifying gender is difficult, especially for people questioning their gender. Sometimes picking a square is easier than picking a word, and rightfully so….words are complicated!

The cards are there as a helpful manipulative. Help kiddos make a nonbinary box from them on your table, or let kiddos flipthrough them as they’re discussing their gender. The sky is the limit!

Please note: I take no credit for the concept of the nonbinary box, this resource simply comes from my need to create a therapeutic version for use with children and adolescents in a clinical setting.
