Hopscotch is fun practice for young learners. Print & Laminate the hopscotch board. Use a dry-erase marker to write words you want your student to read, or math facts to practice, etc. in each square. Have your student use a toy to “hop” to each square, and make it to the top! As Sweet as Can Be is a writing prompt paper that can be used anytime of the year! I always use it around Valentine’s Day, but can be used in a candy unit or anytime you want your students to write some nice words about somebody else! I have students pick a student in the class and then they give it to them as a gift. No matter who you let them choose to write about, it’s a nice writing assignment for them to to!

Valentine Candy Math! A Valentine’s Day Math Game Freebie

This is a 2 player game. Each player takes a game board. 1, 2, or 3 dice are needed for this game. For younger students, roll one die and place the correct number of candies on their heart box. Older students can roll 2 or 3 die and add the numbers together to get the number of candy they should take. When all of the candies are gone, the students count the candy on their game board. The player with the most candy wins. Directions for a subtraction game are also included.

Common Core Standards:
K.CC.1 Count to 100 by ones and tens.
K.CC.4 Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities; connect counting to cardinality.
K.CC.5 Count to answer “how many?” questions about as many as 20 things arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle, or as many as 10 things in a scattered configuration; given a number from 1-20, count out that many objects.
K.CC.6 Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group, e.g./ by using matching and counting strategies. (Include groups with up to 10 objects.)
1.OA.3 Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract.
1.OA.5 Relate counting to addition and subtraction
1.OA.6 Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10.

This free packet of adorable Valentine Math and Reading Activities will provide fun and excitement for your PreK-2nd grade classes. In the sight words Valentine heart puzzle, students will color various site words from the Common Core a specified color. On the number recognition activity, students will connect the numbers from 1 to 20 in a dot to dot that produces a Valentine heart. On the initial sounds activity, students must identify the initial sound of the given picture and write it in the box to produce a secret message of “Be My Valentine”.

Free Valentine Fun–Three ready to print activities!
Use the template for the craftivity, but there’s opportunity for students to personalize this and add uniqueness to it.

Students love reading conversation candy hearts. They enjoy writing their own messages, too! This set calls for a little conversation fun.

Good Skill Practice for:
1. Reading
2. Following written directions using the flower glyph
3. Vocabulary usage with words: center, right, left, top, bottom
4. Fine motor skills, such as cutting and pasting, writing
5. Spelling long vowel silent e words, and ee, ea words for students who are at this level. (3rd activity has to do with writing words from the word “Valentine”.)

Here are the 3 main activities in this freebie:
1. Flower Glyph Pages: follow directions, color, and show data
2. Make a flower craft (patterns included)
3. Spell words using the letters in the word “VALENTINE”.

It’s also easy fun for fast finishers, homework and independent workers, and if you need something for the substitute teacher.

Have a little fraction fun with this Valentine’s activity! This is similar to my Fraction Avenue, but it has a Valentine’s twist. Students decorate a “Valentine Village” using fractions. There are two versions of this activity to allow for easy differentiation. In one version, students model basic fractions, and in the second version, students must model equivalent fractions.

This is an MLK / winter themed math center. It is perfect for preschool and Kindergarten, as well as, special education instruction. It is appropriate for the school and homeschool setting.

Objective: Students will actively move around the room to count the images in the pictures. Students will then write the correct numeral next to the matching letter on the recording sheet.

This colorful Winter inspired Daily 5 Check In SmartBoard is sure to get your kids excited about Daily 5 and will help them to learn how to make choices!

There are five slides to use for check in. You can use just one or use the different colored ones for different days or rotations.

Teachers can track their students’ whereabouts in the room and ensure that all stations are being used and that students don’t repeat stations.
Files can be saved by day, for the week or over the course of the year by using the “Save As” button and saving them by their date. You can also clone the page and add to different color backgrounds for different days of the week or different rotations.

Instructions are given in this file on how to input student names into the boxes. Once you have done this one time, you will have the names to copy and paste throughout the year for all sorts of Smartboards including attendance, lunch count, class graphs, etc. There is also a link to my blog to learn how to do screen shots if you want to learn how to ensure names don’t accidentally come ungrouped.

In this one-class period activity, students will discuss the techniques of effective public speaking, view Jason Reynolds’ 10-minute speech, and deconstruct/discuss his use of rhetorical devices. Questions focus on audience, the value of storytelling over lecture, and rhetorical application of poetic devices including foreshadowing and symbolism. These print-and-teach materials can serve as a stand-alone lesson or as a supplement to any literature study that focuses on issues of equity and social justice.
