FREE MISC. LESSON – “Active Classroom Games”

by Diamond Mom

Kindergarten – 6th Grade

These are some activities that were presented to us at a Professional Development session a few years ago. We played them but we were not given any handouts to go along with them. I made notes of the activities and then gave them to the teachers in the group so they could use them in their classrooms.
As part of our curriculum, we are supposed to provide daily P.E. Since we don’t always have gym time available, these activities help to make it possible to do P.E. in the classroom. I hope you enjoy trying them out.

Here are some of my other classroom management products.

Thank You for your purchase of this product. I hope you find it helpful.

FREE MATH LESSON – “Addition and Subtraction Strategies for Parents: Base Ten, Number Lines & More!”

by Ms BBZ

Kindergarten – 3rd Grade

This is a quick introduction for parents on four different strategies for solving addition and subtraction with re-grouping – base ten blocks, using a hundreds chart, adding on a number line, and expanded form.

I’m using this to send home to parents so they can be familiar with our problem-solving strategies and help their kids – we didn’t learn this way and it’s the #1 thing parents are confused about at conferences.

If you like this freebie – feel free to leave me some feedback! AND check out the full presentation – http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Conceptual-Math-the-Common-Core-Way-Addition-and-Subtraction-Strategies

by Sparkle in Second

Kindergarten – 6th Grade

This is a great tool to use with students who are learning about a new topic. This KWL chart can be used with a variety of topics. The children fill out what they already know about the topic in the K column. Then, the children write down what the want to know about the topic in the W column. Then, when they are done learning about the topic they write down what they have learned. This graphic organizer is a great tool for teachers to verify learning has taken place.

FREE MISC. LESSON – “August FREEBIE – Classroom Management Life Savers”

by The Primary Techie

Pre-Kindergarten – 4th Grade

I am so excited to share my classroom management tools with you. These have changed the way I do reading groups. These work best with a remote clicker or you can take a wireless keyboard to your reading table. I put it on “slideshow” then go to my group. When the class is working on-task, I click to reveal a part of the picture. When they are off-task, I click the back button and they lose a piece of the picture. The kids are motivated to see the picture completed. There is a sound to notify the class that they have earned or lost a piece. These are SO easy to use and it really helps me focus on the kids at my table.

You can find this and 60 other themes in my Classroom Management Life Savers set. Click here to check it out!

Click here to read more about these management tools!

I am passionate about making school as fun as possible. Follow my store to see what I come out with next!

FREE MATH LESSON – “Color Monthly Calendar Templates”

by Fun To Teach

1st – 3rd Grade

Twelve great monthly calendar templates for elementary students. There is a template for each month of the year.

Add these calendars to your math time and teach your students math skills around days, weeks, and months. There are plenty of squares to fill in dates, holidays, and birthdays. Older students can fill in homework, holidays, and activities during the month. Print these calendars to help your students get more organized in their life and activities. Teach students to keep track of events with calendars.

Lesson Plan:
-At the beginning of each Month have your students fill in the calendar with numbers, special days in the month and holidays.

-Decorate the calendar according to the month. Turkeys for November, hearts for February, etc. Each day have students fill in the worksheet page.

Variation:
Print calendars then place them in a sheet protector for use. Write on, wipe off and hang anywhere.

FREE SCIENCE LESSON – “Bugs and Critters! Be an Entomologist”

by Growing Smart Readers

Kindergarten – 3rd Grade

GRAB A MAGNIFYING LENS and GO!

This is a revised freebie!

This “Critter Craze” resource gives your kids a chance to get out of the classroom and be an entomologist. They may find all kinds of bugs, not just insects…but even spiders. Be sure to tell them that entomologists study insects as well as other bugs. While insects do have 6 legs, they may find a spider to write about.

The “jar” graphic allows them the opportunity to draw their many-legged critter. Follow up with a mini research for more information about their new-found specimen.

2 report frames (differentiated) are included.

I hope your kids have a great time with this Critter Craze activity, and perhaps it will be a great jumpstart for writing an insect report.

Have fun with this, but remind students to RELEASE THEIR BUGS back into the wild after studying them.

If you like this lesson activity, and your kids had fun finding an insect and writing about it, you may want to check out: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Animal-Report-Writing-to-Inform-Templates

Flexible Seating: Stools, rockers, rugs, and seats…For READING??

Why flexible seating?

Hello My friends!

This is Wendy from 1stgradefireworks.

I use flexible seating in my first grade classroom.

You will LOVE it!

I hope this post helps YOU!

When I was in elementary school

( Way back in the DINOSAUR days )
1970’s

flexible seating in the classroom

We sat in rows.
Many rows.
All of us looking straight ahead.
At the teacher, at all times!
No flexible seating, here.

flexible seating in the classroom

Classroom Seating in the 1950’s

We kept our hands & feet to ourselves.
We kept our books in our desks.
And we read QUIETLY to ourselves.
Shhh…whisper!

We read.
Some people enjoyed it.
Some people just pretended.
Most did what we were told.
We didn’t ask…WHY?
or

Is there ANOTHER WAY?

How to bring flexible seating options into my classroom?

WHY?
Because at home…

I would lay on my bed and read for HOURS!

I would lay on my bed and READ for HOURS!

And that is how I  LOVE TO READ!

I want my students to LOVE to read!

So I have “changed it up!”
I have added flexible seating options in my classroom for kids to
read in a comfortable, relaxed, enjoyable experience.

Every day after lunch my first graders do

READ  TO  SELF.

If you have not read the book

The Daily 5

The Daily 5

from “The 2  SISTERS”
  YOU  NEED  TO!
My first graders read to themselves.

Not to me,
Not to a partner,
JUST TO THEMSELVES!

Therefore…READ  TO  SELF!

I set the BIG TIMER!

online reading timer

Online Countdown Timer

I use THIS one.

We start the year at 6 minutes.  Read.
We work on increasing our reading STAMINA.
 Read longer.
Today, we are at 18 minutes!

18 minutes of uninterrupted reading
of books THEY choose!

BUT there is MORE!

They don’t sit in rows.
They don’t sit at their desk.

We have flexible seating choices for reading.

They MOAN when the timer goes off.

They ask during other times of the day
to Read in the Rockers.

THEY  WANT  TO  READ!

I have taught them to LOVE to READ..

ANY HOW…ANY WHERE!
Flexible seating choices have made a HUGE difference
in the reading choices my students make.

They want harder books.
They want to read MORE!

It’s hard to walk into a first grade classroom

and hear…SILENCE.

But the “whispers” of reading are heard, daily!
UPDATE

My “flexible seating” is complete!
Now to “arrange” it into
WORKSTATIONS!

                                                                    I absolutely LOVE IT!
