  Zen Classroom

By Retta London of Rainbow City Learning

Some ideas for bringing peace and calm to your classroom, using practices found in yoga.

A Disciplined Child is a Happy Child

By Deann Marin of Socrates Lantern

I can’t express enough that one of the worst things a teacher can do is to prejudge a class or a student before they even enter the room. Let’s face it, some kids get along better with some teachers than they do with others, so it’s better to listen but with a grain of salt and                                                                                           make your own judgment.

Semicolons and Conjunctive Adverbs Lesson, Practice, Games, and Assessment

From Teach BeTween the Lines

Teach your students how to create compound sentences with semicolons, and compound sentences with semicolons and conjunctive adverbs! This Lesson will provide your students with explicit explanations using mentor sentences, two fun games, two great practice activities, application activities, and a potential summative assessment!

The lesson consists of a PowerPoint/Google Slides to show your students how to craft these tricky compound/complex sentences. Mentor sentences foster classroom discussions, demonstrate quality writing, and model the correct use of semicolons with an adverbial conjunction. Students will be able to identify, explain and apply the most common conjunctive adverbs to craft rich and interesting sentences.

Tic-Tac-Know game asks students to practice and apply their knowledge while having a great time playing tic-tac-toe with their peers.

Conjunctive Adverb Ball Toss game will have your students racing to complete semicolon/conjunctive adverb challenges, creating complete engagement through the practice of sentence creation! My students beg to play this game anytime we have a few extra minutes!

Two Practice Word Document/Google Document will allow your students to practice crafting these compound sentences.

Finding Examples Activity will have your students searching for their own mentor sentences within their reading. Students can then work with you to create a bulletin board of compound sentence examples.

Spelling Flip Book

https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Spelling-Flip-Book-3019606

Spelling Flip Book

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Spelling Flip Book is designed to help young learners become familiar with spelling rules and to incorporate them into their work.

Students can color and personalize their flip books to enhance the spelling learning experience.

I always like encouraging my students to use their flip books as reference sheets when they are working to promote good spelling habits. The goal is that eventually, by using the flip book when working, the student will begin to remember common errors made in the past and correct them. I have had much success with this strategy in my classes.

I’ve also included a color copy and an answer key – a total of 18 pages.

It’s teaching made easy!

FREE MISC. LESSON – “Evaluate the teacher”

by Alicia Lykins

3rd – 10th Grade

Wouldn’t your kids have fun giving YOU a grade?

This is a quick form for kids to fill out letting you know how they feel about how the class is going. It gives them a chance to feel like their voice is being heard and gives us a chance to hear from those kids that may not always speak up. Plus it is a great way to find out about the climate of your classroom and allows us to step back and re evaluate our procedures and practices.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON – “French Fry Book Project / Book Report”

by Brooke Beverly

2nd – 5th Grade

Want to add a twist giving a book report? Try using the French Fry Book Project! Students create French Fry bags with various story elements and a summary, and use yellow strips of paper (french fries) to complete the other project requirements. This is a cute project that can allow all the children in your room to be successful, and read a book on their level. You get the project description with a parent notification signature, and the project rubric. When you open the document it may look like it is missing a few lines. When you print the document, or zoom in, they will appear. Project is on one printable page, but the thumbnails are zoomed and in two slides to be able to read text.

FREE MATH LESSON – “Metric Meter Posters”

by Quinnessential Lessons

4th – 6th Grade

These are a set of seven posters (kilometer, hectometer, dekameter, meters, decimeter, centimeter, and millimeter) – one set in color, the other in black and white.

Print, laminate and hang. These are a great reference for your students when they are tackling metric conversions.

I have also used them during whole group instruction – I pass out all seven posters and then have the seven students get themselves in the correct order at the front of the room. The students that are seated can help if they are having difficulty. Repeat until everyone has had a turn.

Any questions? Don’t hesitate to ask.

FREE SOCIAL STUDIES LESSON – “US President Brain Breaks”

by The Primary Techie

Kindergarten – 6th Grade

This is a fun way to review presidents and get your kids up and movin’ at the same time. Choose movements for your kids to do as they say the name of each president – jumping jacks, punch out, and chair kicks are just a few ideas you can use. There are two speeds to choose from. With “click to advance”, you will control the speed. This is a good one to use if you want to discuss the presidents or just go slowly. If you choose this “auto advance”, transitions happen automatically. This is fun when you are doing the moves with your kids. Just start it and join in the fun!

I LOVE having fun at school! Follow me for more engaging learning tools.
