Many of our students did not master seasonal vocabulary when it was introduced in younger grades. These terms are often not taught again but consistently show up on standardized testing measures. If they aren’t re-introduced to our students so they can gain mastery, they may never learn them. That is why this approach has been a vital part of my own therapy sessions. Many of us work with students who struggle with group collaborative assignments because of their difficulty with social situations. One strategy that I have used to help students participate successfully in small groups is to assign roles explicitly to the participants in the group. These cards provide a fun way of doing it. You can mix them up and have the students draw a card or you can assign the roles depending on what works best for your class. Cut them out and laminate them or leave them as paper and put them folded in a container for students to draw. I’ve left a blank card so you can add roles that you need for your class that I haven’t thought of. Great for students with autism, Asperger’s syndrome, or other special needs.

This resource provides a sort of activity sheet/poster along with 36 manipulatives in card form (I suggest you throw them on a ring or in a plastic baggy, bonus points if you laminate everything for multiple uses, too).

As a poster, this can be hung on the wall as passive reinforcement that you’re a safe person.

As an activity, this provides a way for kids, teens and adults, to identify and communicate their gender. Identifying gender is difficult, especially for people questioning their gender. Sometimes picking a square is easier than picking a word, and rightfully so….words are complicated!

The cards are there as a helpful manipulative. Help kiddos make a nonbinary box from them on your table, or let kiddos flipthrough them as they’re discussing their gender. The sky is the limit!

Please note: I take no credit for the concept of the nonbinary box, this resource simply comes from my need to create a therapeutic version for use with children and adolescents in a clinical setting.

If you are a homeschool parent

First, your child can use the worksheet with a QR code that links to a full video lesson. The worksheet has explanations and worked out examples, as well as practice questions to use during the lesson.
Then, once your child has finished the lesson, there is a full exercise with more questions for practicing the concept they learned.
At the end of the pack there is an answer key (with fully worked out solutions) for the practice examples in the worksheet, so your child can look back after the lesson if they need a reminder of how any of the practice examples were solved in the lesson.

If you are a parent with a child struggling with maths

Your child can use the lesson video for further help with understanding the concept they are struggling with.
They can also use the exercise for extra examples to practice the concept.

Prepare for an upcoming election with this project to get students thinking fairly and critically about an issue or topic.

In this project, students will…
• Get in small groups and pick a topic or ballot issue
• Complete informative research with credible sources, cited facts, and paraphrases
• Analyze the persuasive techniques/appeals being used by both sides of the issue (including ethos, pathos, and logos)
• Pick from a list of 25 extension questions to answer
• Present their research findings to the class (while the audience takes notes)
• Optional: Hold a class “election” to see where students now stand on issues

This freebie also includes a brief teacher’s guide with additional ideas! Editable and PDF versions are both included.
