No-prep printables – Reading and Writing for Christmas!
Happy (almost) holidays, my friends. Have you noticed an excitement in the air? My students definitely have the Christmas Spirit, and are always thrilled to have some fun seasonal activities do to recognize it!
I run Early Literacy Intervention groups with students from grades 1-3. While we do guided reading and writing, and play skill-building games, once in a while I do like to have them do some worksheets that I can keep a copy of in their files. We are currently working through both of the packages shown in the picture above and they are enthusiastic with the variety of activities at their ‘just-right’ level, too.
Here is a close up of the North Pole Reading and Writing Fun preview:
…and one of the Nativity Reading and Writing Fun preview:
The kids are having a lot of fun with these, thanks to the wonderful clip art by Edu-clips.com. They can’t wait to color the pictures!
Each of these packages come with the following tip sheet:
Best wishes to all of you and yours as we wrap up for the holidays. Take care of you, too!

Right now, over at my blog, you will see that I have linked up with a few other bloggers to share with you our exciting holiday crafts we make in the classroom each year!
For instance, I love to make these adorable reindeer made from a hanger and knee high pantyhose! It’s so simple and inexpensive. My kiddos love it every time!

Then I have this craft on there that only requires a spoon, markers, and a few craft items! It’s so adorable. I add a candy sucker to mine for a special treat to my little ones!

MISC LESSON: “New Year’s Resolution Flip Book”
I love New Years! It’s a great time to start fresh with new goals. Am I successful? Not always, but it is fun trying right? And it’s the perfect time to do so (and easier to keep track of when you started it!).
Kids are the same way- at least my kiddos in my classroom are. They are already telling me predictions for Christmas and what 2016 will bring them. That’s when I got the idea… Why not have the little ones create their own New Year’s Resolution too!
I created this easy flip book for students to work through as they think out their goal (along with a graphic organizer to brainstorm on). In it students will not only determine what their goal is, but also describe why it’s their goal and just how they will accomplish it! I also can have them turn it into a written piece or reflect on how 2015 went so they can better determine how to reach their goals this year! Plus, it’s just cute!
So are you thinking this would make a great morning work project on the first day back from winter break? Or maybe you are thinking it’d make a great center activity or for early finishers. Head on over to my TpT store to check it out! I think your kiddos will definitely enjoy this cute little keepsake!

FREE: Math lesson “Multiplication Freebie”
As the school year is winding down before winter break, you are probably looking at just review materials for your little ones! I imagine if your kiddos are like mine, they are starting to shift around in their seat more and are talking waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much about break- as if they are already on it! There is no way their brain is going to take in any new material right now!
So, I created this Holiday Multiplication Math Freebie to review our multiplication facts (because they could really use some extra practice to get those facts down!) that is Christmas based to hold their attention a little as they work on it.
Some of the sheets I have used as morning work or a quick warm up! I have not only included practice with their facts, but I have also added array practice and story problems!

Counting by 2s, phrasing, fluency and quotation marks with REINDEER!
Have you ever noticed how perfectly the Santa’s reindeer and Rudolph stories lend themselves to teaching kids about counting by twos? The reindeer are paired up in the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer song and in Santa’s famous line at the end of the classic story Twas the Night Before Christmas. The teachable moment is just sitting in front us begging to be used!
Perhaps that is why I, That Fun Math Reading Teacher, have started passing on this Phrasing and Fluency Reader to teachers as a math resource as well. (For anyone who may have purchased it more than a year ago, please go back to your purchases page and download an updated version.)
Last year I was using 10 at the Sled primarily for the phrasing, fluency and fun factor. That is, after all, the purpose for which it was written in the first place. It can be sung to the tune of Ten in the Bed, and even if students are not familiar with the song, they do catch on to the simple melody quickly and enjoy the repetition. They also hear how certain words fall together naturally to create phrases.
After several requests for a black and white student booklet last year, I created one over the summer, using speech bubbles where there are quotation marks used in the color edition:
![]() |
![]() |
I wanted to show students what quotation marks really mean, in a visual way, rather than only telling them. I am finding that with this year’s students, this concrete approach has made a huge difference. We compare my color copy with their black and white copy and discuss how quotation marks and speech bubbles really serve the same purpose. *Lightbulb moment*!
The tone, expression (and curiously deep voices) they use when reading the ‘spoken’ lines are hilarious! But clearly, meaningful to them!
Thank you to all of the teacher bloggers who provided feedback during the Christmas in July sale that led to these revisions.
Enjoy these last two weeks!

FREE MISC. LESSON – “Common Core Morning Work – Grade 2 ~ Christmas Edition”
by Primary “Teach”spiration
2nd Grade
This is my FREE Christmas Edition of Common Core Morning Work – Grade 2. It includes both English Language Arts & math. Every problem is coded with its Common Core State Standard. It has a complete answer key! This one week of CCSS morning work is great to use during the final week before winter break or any time during the holiday season! It is a sample of my yearlong units as described below:
Let your second graders’ morning work actually work for them to master essential Common Core English Language Arts and Math skills by the end of the year through continual daily review. This strategy always produced amazing results with my second graders, because they didn’t forget what they had learned.
Common Core State Standards covered include:
*ELA – W.2.5, L.2.1, L.2.2
*Math – All Grade 2 Standards as the year progresses
The Language Arts Daily Edit portion of each printable provides two sentences to be edited (using editing marks) and then rewritten correctly as edited. It is more than just a simple “Fix the Sentence” activity. The sentences are designed to practice and spiral review the ELA Common Core Standards of editing, grammar usage, capitalization, punctuation, and spelling patterns. The comprehensive daily editing increases in difficulty and becomes
second-nature over time, which helps to strengthen writing abilities in all areas. The sentences are aligned with the READING STREET reading series units, but can be used effectively with any second grade language arts program.
The Math Review portion is designed to practice and spiral review ALL Second Grade Common Core Standards in a repetitive format that increases in difficulty over time, including 5 addition and/or subtraction facts on every page.
—————————————
This Freebie is a one week sample of my yearlong units.
Included are:
*5 Morning Work practice pages

FREE MATH LESSON – “Shopping for Holiday Decorations: Money Skills (autism; special education)”
by Autism Classroom News-Christine
2nd – 12th Grade
For a busy time of year, this is an easy print-and-go set of holiday math / shopping activities for students working on money skills in elementary school or life skills classes. Put the sales flyers in a page protector and either cut out the task cards for single use or put them in a photo album or laminate for re-use.
This freebie is a sneak peek of of my Economics of Shopping Series
The freebie consists of three sales flyers for holiday decorations, 8 task cards for writing in prices, and 2 print and go worksheets to answer questions about the flyer. The sales flyers are the same with 3 different levels of pricing. The worksheets are identical but one has a word bank to assist students. The worksheet with the word bank will only work with the stores called “Holly’s Decorations Sale.” It will not work for the third sheet because the Christmas tree price is different. The words from the bank could be cut out and pasted in the answer section, or laminated and attached with Velcro for re-use.
