Do you want a way to effectively use computer technology with Pre-K and Kindergarten Students? Would you like students to develop computer or device skills while simultaneously developing the sorting skills that are so important to math and science? Here is a free lesson to help you teach technology skills and sorting skills at the same time. Before using this FREE lesson, start with sorting different colored objects such as blocks or counters. After your students have hands on practice with these, you can move on to this Google Classroom™ activity.

There are ten slides in this activity. Each slide asks the students to drag and drop all of one particular color into a marked space on the slide. There is a slide for each of these colors: blue, black, brown, white, green, orange, pink, purple, red and yellow. There are nine movable pieces of the requested color, some with different colored pieces mixed in. Students will sort the colors in the paperless activity and practice dragging and dropping objects on a computer or device.This computer activity can also be used as Response to Intervention or as an authentic assessment

Weekly Word Problems are my absolute FAVORITE way to teach word problems! These word problems have become an essential component to my classroom instruction!

Weekly Word problems allow students to practice their word problem skills each day. The May version contains a mixture of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division word problems, and all operations include larger numbers that require students to apply their computation skills. In this activity, students solve 3 word problems a day, and on Fridays they write their own word problem for a specific operation. There are 4 weeks worth of word problems in this product. All of the word problems have spring or summer related theme. An answer key is included.

What’s Included
Since I want my students to be able to solve the word problems independently, the August word problems are primarily a review of third grade math. In September, students begin to add and subtract larger 4-digit numbers, while the multiplication and division problems are centered around basic math facts. I add larger multiplication problems in the October version, and by November students are multiplying 3-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers and 2-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers. I’ve also added 3-digit division problems, as well as a few multi-step word problems!

Bugs, Bugs, Everywhere! Help me catch them if you dare!
Check out this freebie for final consonant deletion as a preview of my early developing articulation activities for spring.

Included:
30 final consonant deletion bugs
4 special “splat” bugs
2 bug collectors

Place Velcro on each bug and on a fly swatter. Spread the cards all over the table or around the room. Have your students smack the bugs with the fly swatter and place them in their jar. The student who collects the most bugs wins the game.

2.) Spread the cards out on the table face down. Students will take turns flipping a card over, saying the target word, and collecting the bugs in their jar. Watch out for the special cards. The student with the most bugs in their jar at the end of the game is the winner.
(Note: SPLAT!! Can mean give two cards back or lose a turn.)

It is formatted for teachers to fill in a time to meet, activities to do, and groups to meet with each day of the week. Literal vs Figurative Language

Amelia Bedelia follows instructions exactly. She is not familiar with figurative language (expressions). She is a literal thinker ( understands things exactly as said).
It is important to understand that she needs to be told instructions exactly in order to follow them correctly.

Many times we assume that others understand what we mean. We use expressions and we often leave out information when we describe things or ask for something. Mr. Rogers learns that this is not so with Amelia Bedelia.

At the beginning of the book, Mr. Rogers asks for toast and an egg. He assumes that the egg will be cooked. Amelia Bedelia brings him a raw egg. When he cracks it open, it makes a big mess. He gets upset. Amelia Bedelia tells him that he didn’t ask her to cook it. He then tells her to “go fly a kite.” She goes outside to fly a kite, but that isn’t what he means. He uses figurative language. He is annoyed and he is asking her to go away from him.

There are many examples of figurative language in the story. In many cases, they can be identified by the way Amelia Bedelia behaves when they are used.

In this inquiry based, discovery activity students graph two lines and then answer questions about solutions to equations and points on the lines of the equations. The goal of this activity is for students to observe that the solution to a system will occur where the graphs of the lines intersect and that systems can be solved by graphing. Students construct their own meaning and understanding, and will be making observations and answering critical thinking questions that will help them to make sense of the solutions to a system of equations.
