Poetry is a very subjective form of art. Some poems you love and others, you hate. What we need to realize is that this is the beauty of poetry. Poetry is not a mystery to be solved. Rather, it is the masterful manipulation of language that has the power to transform the ordinary and to immerse its reader into the world created by the author.

This unit incorporates art to help students understand and appreciate the beauty within words. In addition, students will learn how to analyse themes in poetry though paintings and art work.

This HUGE bundle includes:

– Knowledge and manipulation of figurative and poetic language

– How to effectively develop themes from poetry
– Creative writing
– Creative activities to learn how to analyse

FREE MATH LESSON – Math Addition Game

By:  The Owl Teacher

Grades 1-3

When I first began creating products for Teachers Pay Teachers, I experimented a little with creating some fun, tic-tac-toe math games.  That is where this freebie was born!  (Hence my old Owl Teacher Logo.)

addtiontictactoe2 8x8

This is a fun game where students play in pairs practicing their basic addition facts!  Here’s how it works…

Students draws a card and chooses a place to put their designated letter (an X or an O).  Just like tic-tac-toe, students want to get three in a row to win, while blocking and preventing their partner from doing just that.  So in order to place their letter, they must solve the math problem correctly.  Each time a student wins a round, he or she will keep that task card and move on to another.  The student with the most task cards at the end, wins!  Below is an image of four different task cards!

You can download this entire set of task cards FREE by heading over to my Teachers Pay Teachers store here.

bingo kings 7bingo kings 8

Informational Text

There are eight pages of informational text about the topic: Kings, Queens and the Feudal System. The passages cover the following topics:

  • The Feudal System
  • Becoming King; Becoming Queen
  • The Coronation
  • Qualities and Abilities of Royalty
  • Famous Medieval Kings
    • William the Conqueror
    • Richard I
    • King John
  • Famous Medieval Queens
    • Matilda of Flanders
    • Eleanor of Aquitaine
  • Other Classes of the Feudal System

Words that are included:

King, Queen, Pope, Feudal System, Regent, Nobles, Consort, Serf, Peasant, Magna Carta, King John, Crusades, Matilda of Flanders, Clergy, Skilled Laborers, William the Conqueror, Taxes, Fief, Duchy, Loyalty and Service, Long Live the King!,  Coronation, Charter, Eleanor of Aquitaine

Although all cards contain the same 24 words, the order on each card is unique.  Each student will find every word on their card.  Of course, this means “blackout” is not a good option – although my students sometimes insisted on playing all the way through and singing out “BINGO” in unison at the end!

This product is great for a large group, class or co-op.!  It can be played in the traditional way where the instructor randomly chooses one of the cards and calls out the word.  Or, to play as a review game, the instructor can read the clue that appears on the card below the BINGO word.

You are in desperate need of some fun learning and reinforcement activities for your class because they are already on vacation. I’ve been there and I know exactly how it feels, so, I have created an End of the Year Arithmetic Game and Worksheet Bundle that may just do the trick.
End of the Year addit, subt, mult, div board game for grades 2-4 8x8 Cover
2015-04-16
This is an end of the year arithmetic fact review that can be used for grades 2-4 and Special Education it consists of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts from 1-12. All of the facts are on flash cards that may be used for the card game, “Spring into Summer War,” and the board game, “Spring Up, or Fall Down.” There are answer sheets for the class to use to make sure they have said the correct answer. When games are finished, there are worksheets that can be used as class work or homework. Just for fun, some pictures are at the end for coloring.

Designed for third and fourth grade math centers, Money Bingo features an online bingo caller that will work on most personal computers with internet access. It can also be played on an an interactive whiteboard. Use the online bingo caller to draw random question cards and to display called answers while students play along with their own printed bingo cards.

This download features 4 player cards that can be printed either in black and white or in color. I prefer to print in black and white, as the students need to make calculations and write on their bingo cards.

The game is common core aligned for Third and Fourth Grades as follows:

Third Grade:
CCSS Math Content 3.NBT.A.2
Fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.
-Making change for purchases made with five and ten dollar bills
-Adding / subtracting to determine difference between the amount of money available and the listed price (i.e. The listed price is $3.50. You have 90 cents. How much more money do you need?

Fourth Grade:
CCSS Math.Content.4.MD.A.2
Use the four operations to solve word problems involving distances, intervals of time, liquid volumes, masses of objects, and money, including problems involving simple fractions or decimals, and problems that require expressing measurements given in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit.
-Making change for purchases made with five and ten dollar bills
-Adding / subtracting to determine difference between the amount of money available and the listed price (i.e. The listed price is $3.50. You have 90 cents. How much more money do you need?
-Simple multiplication / division to determine money equivalents ( i.e. How many dimes are in a five dollar bill?)
