Kindergarten – 3rd Grade

This lesson plan provides directions for a teacher-led experiment to demonstrate to students how clouds are formed.
*Please note, this experiment should NOT be completed by students, as the water needed is extremely HOT*
Included in the lesson plan are directions for the teacher, a worksheet for students to complete, and an answer key. Also provided are suggestions for differentiation and how to assess students on the ability to sequence/give directions. Common core frameworks references are provided.
This activity utilizes common household objects such as mason jars, ice, and metal cake pans. This is a fun and engaging experiment for students K-3rd, as they explore how clouds are formed on a small scale.

This 24 slide power point of Desert Adaptations illustrates adaptations in behavior (being nocturnal, burrowing for shelter) and structure (such as camouflage, sharp talons, sharp spines, long roots) that God provided desert creatures.

Discusses predator/prey and the definition of a desert with links to the dietary regulations given in Leviticus 11 to the Children of Israel. Illustrated throughout. Aligns with VA SOL’s 3.4, 3.5, 3.6, 4.5.

-BINGO Board- Students can color objects using a single color . Encourage creativity. For example a blue turtle, green shark.etc

– Once the bingo board is filled, ask students to complete the writing prompt. Each sentence should describe the animal’s color and size. For example: My shark is green and big.

-Play Bingo. Read different combinations and write them on the board. You can play for the whole board. All combinations should be written on the board. Ask students to verify their worksheets and correct them as they play. Winners can get homework passes.

-Word Search- Great conclusion for word recognition and review. Have students work in small groups and compete for a Homework pass.

You have enough material to work for a 1-2 days. You can use the vocabulary worksheet as a quiz at the end of the unit.

Reptiles Scavenger Hunt!

I started making these scavenger hunts to support science in my classroom. However, what I found was that these hunts are a great way to also support reading. Students read to find information about reptiles and then answer questions. It works great a supplement to your science curriculum.

Reptile Scavenger Hunt

Here is a picture of the task cards. There are 20 total task cards. Hang them up around the room and it lets kids get moving while they answering questions. Trust me they will love this activity, my students beg for them.

Here is a picture of what the question pages look like. One thing that I will be doing next year to extend my higher kids, is to have them write their own questions. The lower learners can still participate with the already made questions.

There are writing activities and also some Science experiments. There are lots of visual aids like word wall cards and photo cards.

Send your students to the computer and let them work independently through 8 interactive websites. A reading passage with vocabulary is included to help them answer the 4 essential questions. In my classroom I have my students answer the questions in their notebooks so that I can check for understanding when I review their notebooks. This can be done all at once (45 minutes for most students) or over several days in the classroom.
