Prime Factorization Task Cards – Freebie

These task cards are great to help support students with Prime Factorization. My students always need a ton of extra practice with this skill.  Here are free task cards that I made to use this fall.

Slide04Slide01

You can find these cards for free HERE!

I place task cards around my classroom, give my kids the response sheet that is provided, then they walk around the room answering the questions.  They will love it.  One thing that I’ve found is that task cards really help differentiate between high and low levels of learning.  The high students will get to answer all of the cards.  The lower students, you can take time and walk with them helping them.

Reptiles Scavenger Hunt!

Slide1I started making these scavenger hunts to support science in my classroom. However, what I found was that these hunts are a great way to also support reading.  Students read to find information about reptiles and then answer questions.  It works great a supplement to your science curriculum.

Reptile Scavenger Hunt

Here is a picture of the task cards. There are 20 total task cards.  Hang them up around the room and it lets kids get moving while they answering questions. Trust me they will love this activity, my students beg for them.

Slide6

Here is a picture of what the question pages look like.  One thing that I will be doing next year to extend my higher kids, is to have them write their own questions.  The lower learners can still participate with the already made questions.

Slide2

This is my first science scavenger hunt, but I’m working on more this summer.  If you have a topic you would like a scavenger hunt for leave a comment for this post with your email and topic.

Role Playing Can Be an Effective Strategy for Group Work

By Juliette Roman

Group work is been proven to improve student retention and enhance student learning. In fact, our whole culture is based on team work and working together to solve problems. It makes sense that when people work together (more brainpower) they come up with more ideas, suggestions, and solutions to a problem. But the question remains how do we get children to work together effectively?

Language Arts; Science: “Flipbooks”

By Laurane Rae

Grades 2-6

Flipbooks are undeniably known for their versatility; for one thing, they scaffold the structure of a piece of writing, are a handy visual tool, and look simply impressive. They can be used for just about any subject or topic:

The templates can also be glued into an Interactive Notebook.
As a flipbook has different compiled components, I have my students first finish each section. They work at their own pace and place each finished section in a folder. Each team of 4-5 students sit together and have their own folder on their table, that way all their pieces are in one place and easily accessible.
My students have told me that the best part is when all the sections are completed and they get to compile them and see the finished whole.
The proud look on their faces say it all.

Mini Grammar Books: Teach Parts of Speech

These easy-to-use, printable mini grammar books are ready for use.  There are ten mini books that feature the parts of speech.  Each page contains printed headings that can be used to organize notes.  preview 2

Students can create their own reference mini books to use when they’re learning to use different grammatical concepts.

By using the books for writing assessments, quizzes, journal prompts, and practice, students strengthen note taking skills.  Students also go back to their own text to check for understanding.

So many ways to strengthen student engagement between grammar and writing!

The Beauty of Interactive Notebooks

ELA: “MEGA POETRY UNIT : {INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOK , QR CODES, EDITABLE POWERPOINT}”
By Laurane Rae@TeachToTell
Grades 3-6

Interactive notebooks templates are so versatile! Other than sharing in the commonality of being a printable with the humble worksheet, they serve to greatly economize on space.

For instance, you can scaffold teaching and learning effectively.

You can have prompts on the cover tabs followed by responses under these tabs.

Here I’ve scaffolded the structure of different poem types. Students can look at the prompts and follow along when writing their own poems.

They serve as excellent graphic organizers and effectively target kinesthetic learners with all the cutting and gluing:  active hands = active minds.

Great for Compare and Contrast features too.

And above all anything in an Interactive Notebook looks appealing!

It’s all in this bundle!

Sincerely,
Laurane Rae
