It seems like every year, summer vacation goes quicker and quicker and before we know it, school comes a calling. What I’ve always liked about teaching is that each year is a new beginning. What happened last year is in the past and I’m always so happy to meet my new charges. New challenges, new things to teach, new things to learn, different methods and programs keep my teaching fresh. I’m going to share some of the things that I do to organize my classroom into a good environment for learning.

Are you still in school?  Is your brain showing a Needs Charged light?  Need a fresh idea or three to swing you into summer vacation?

If you answered, “YES!” to any of these questions, check out the following three FREEBIES that will act as energy bars for your students during the remainder of the year.

1. Comprehension & Writing Activity – “Taking a Break”

takingabreakactivity_Page_1This free activity is great for an end of the year recap to assess Middle and High School students’ comprehension, understanding, and analytic skills of the material that they read, or for any time during the year prior to a vacation.

For this activity, students are going on a dream vacation. To keep them company on this trip, they ask three characters from books that they have read for school assignments that year to go on the trip with them. Who will they take? Why them? Where will they go? How will these people help them have a perfect trip? They are to answer these questions as they relate vacation plans.

2. Comprehension and Writing Activity: Carry On!

CarryOnrev2014_Page_1Other than hairstyles, few physical adornments show more about people than the clothes they choose to wear and their accessories. This FREE Common Core and Bloom’s Taxonomy aligned activity not only focuses on the type of purse/attaché case/tote/ backpack, etc. that a character would choose, but also the items he/she would keep in it.

After brainstorming what type of accessory celebrities would choose, as well as what items they would put in it, Middle School and High School students will do the same for their teacher-assigned character.

FREE MATH LESSON – “Free Counting Song 1-20 (MP3)”

by Renee Dawn

PreKindergarten – 12th Grade

Counting Song PNG

How do you get kids to behave, calm down, clean up, transition, do homework, time out, stand and stretch? It’s all made easier with a soothing voice counting the numbers 1 – 20 over relaxing music with a soft beat.

This “magic timer” counts numbers like a heartbeat. It is one beat per second, plus intro and fade-out; one minute of music in all. It’s a great behavior management tool to help kids calm their minds and focus on the task at hand. You can replay it for an extended countdown.

It’s also perfect for teaching kids to count numbers 1-20, as the pronunciation is slow, clear and correct.

It’s not just for kids! If you would like a minute of relaxation, then cup your palms over your eyes as you listen to this…

It’s FREE, so enjoy it…and if you would kindly leave your rating and feedback it would be greatly appreciated!

I hope you find this MP3 useful and helpful, and if you’d like to try the longer version it’s here:

ALL students need to warm up!

We all know that stronger students tend to have more background knowledge. More reading in the home, a broader range of experiences, and less television often result in a student who simply knows more content. Put 25 of those advanced learners in a room, and we can skip some of those instructional hooks we use with weaker students . . . or can we?

We may not need to frontload as much with these students, but they still need to warm up. Even a car that has just had a tune up needs to run a bit before hitting the road in February. At the secondary level when students are changing classes, a lot happens in those five minutes between rooms. One social interaction, text, or bad grade in the previous class will cloud that student’s perception of what happens in your room. In order to access prior knowledge and even skills, get that brain warmed up with a rigorous exercise.

Here’s a bundle of twenty bell ringer exercises for advanced high school students. Take a look and decide if they are right for your students. Enjoy 25% off the list price.

“When I first began TBOTEMC, I will admit, I was a little skeptical. I decided to really commit to the material, and I got connected with some of the members. TBOTEMC was the best decision, or investment, I have ever made. My sales for February 2015 are $8,046. My total sales for last year were just over $6,000. “I started selling at TpT in January of 2013 and, without much marketing, made steady progress and managed to reach the first milestone in October of 2014. After realizing the potential of this business, I decided that I MUST add marketing to my plan if I wanted to continue to rise in the marketplace to the next level. That is when I discovered Vicky’s product. With the guidance of this program, I have seen increases in all areas of my business and I have begun to enjoy the benefits of working with others for the common goal of increasing TpT awareness in the world marketplace. I highly recommend adding this to your own hard work and see where it can take you.”
