Language Arts; Science: “Flipbooks”

By Laurane Rae

Grades 2-6

Flipbooks are undeniably known for their versatility; for one thing, they scaffold the structure of a piece of writing, are a handy visual tool, and look simply impressive. They can be used for just about any subject or topic:

The templates can also be glued into an Interactive Notebook.
As a flipbook has different compiled components, I have my students first finish each section. They work at their own pace and place each finished section in a folder. Each team of 4-5 students sit together and have their own folder on their table, that way all their pieces are in one place and easily accessible.
My students have told me that the best part is when all the sections are completed and they get to compile them and see the finished whole.
The proud look on their faces say it all.
Laurane Rae

Mini Grammar Books: Teach Parts of Speech

These easy-to-use, printable mini grammar books are ready for use.  There are ten mini books that feature the parts of speech.  Each page contains printed headings that can be used to organize notes.  preview 2

Students can create their own reference mini books to use when they’re learning to use different grammatical concepts.

By using the books for writing assessments, quizzes, journal prompts, and practice, students strengthen note taking skills.  Students also go back to their own text to check for understanding.

So many ways to strengthen student engagement between grammar and writing!

KINGS AND QUEENS – READING PASSAGES AND BINGO!

Grades 4-6 and Homeschool

Hands on History

KINGS, QUEENS AND THE FEUDAL SYSTEM

READING PASSAGES AND BINGO

bingo kings cover

BINGO is a fun way to review new concepts and vocabulary words. The words in this BINGO set relate to the topics of  Kings, Queens and the Feudal System, and makes the perfect review for the eight  pages of informational text that are included in this product. The passages can also be used for CLOSE READING, using any non-fiction graphic organizer (not included).

This product includes:

8 One-Page Passages of Informational Text (LEXILE  850-950)

36 Unique Bingo Cards (18 pages with two cards per sheet)

The Caller’s Tracking Sheet

24 Calling Cards Containing Words and Clues

bingo kings 7bingo kings 8

Informational Text

There are eight pages of informational text about the topic: Kings, Queens and the Feudal System. The passages cover the following topics:

  • The Feudal System
  • Becoming King; Becoming Queen
  • The Coronation
  • Qualities and Abilities of Royalty
  • Famous Medieval Kings
    • William the Conqueror
    • Richard I
    • King John
  • Famous Medieval Queens
    • Matilda of Flanders
    • Eleanor of Aquitaine
  • Other Classes of the Feudal System

Words that are included:

King, Queen, Pope, Feudal System, Regent, Nobles, Consort, Serf, Peasant, Magna Carta, King John, Crusades, Matilda of Flanders, Clergy, Skilled Laborers, William the Conqueror, Taxes, Fief, Duchy, Loyalty and Service, Long Live the King!,  Coronation, Charter, Eleanor of Aquitaine

Although all cards contain the same 24 words, the order on each card is unique.  Each student will find every word on their card.  Of course, this means “blackout” is not a good option – although my students sometimes insisted on playing all the way through and singing out “BINGO” in unison at the end!

This product is great for a large group, class or co-op.!  It can be played in the traditional way where the instructor randomly chooses one of the cards and calls out the word.  Or, to play as a review game, the instructor can read the clue that appears on the card below the BINGO word.

The Beauty of Interactive Notebooks

ELA: “MEGA POETRY UNIT : {INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOK , QR CODES, EDITABLE POWERPOINT}”
By Laurane Rae@TeachToTell
Grades 3-6

Interactive notebooks templates are so versatile! Other than sharing in the commonality of being a printable with the humble worksheet, they serve to greatly economize on space.

For instance, you can scaffold teaching and learning effectively.

You can have prompts on the cover tabs followed by responses under these tabs.

Here I’ve scaffolded the structure of different poem types. Students can look at the prompts and follow along when writing their own poems.

They serve as excellent graphic organizers and effectively target kinesthetic learners with all the cutting and gluing:  active hands = active minds.

Great for Compare and Contrast features too.

And above all anything in an Interactive Notebook looks appealing!

It’s all in this bundle!

Sincerely,
Laurane Rae

I have always struggled with helping my kids to understand what they are reading, when they read independently.  If you have struggling readers you know that they will read the book, take the AR test and completely bomb.  They can’t remember what they are reading from day-to-day.

So, I created this awesome reading journal.  I have my struggling readers fill out one page per day.  They will work on reading skills such as identifying setting, character traits, main idea, cause/effect, and so on.  It has really helped my kids with comprehension because they are becoming more engaged with their chapter book.  Kids also track the page they started reading on and finished so they are held accountable for actually reading during silent reading time.  I found that just keeping track of their page number makes a huge difference in motivation!

Great for literacy centers and small group intervention!

Includes:
• 6 Task Cards (8 questions each) + Answer Keys (Both black and white and colored backgrounds included)
• Recording sheet to show completion of each card

Topics include:
• Fact and Opinion (Decide if each statement is a fact or an opinion.)

Science Lesson – Earth Day Webquest

Intermediate Science Lesson

By Brittany Washburn

Earth_Day_cover

Send your students to the computer and let them work independently through 8 interactive websites. A reading passage with vocabulary is included to help them answer the 4 essential questions. In my classroom I have my students answer the questions in their notebooks so that I can check for understanding when I review their notebooks. This can be done all at once (45 minutes for most students) or over several days in the classroom.

POETIC DEVICES QR CODES {RESEARCH}

POETIC DEVICES QR CODES

POETIC DEVICES QR CODES

This is one of my favorite months – for one thing it is a festive season marked by the advent of Easter – and then, it’s National Poetry Month where an appreciation for all things poetic is fostered.

Now, we all know that in order for our students to write creative poems, they must have a sound knowledge of the poetic devices that play an instrumental role in impressing the reader, so with this in mind, I designed 120 QR Codes (40 color, 40 blackline, 40 answer codes) to make conceptual knowledge more concrete. Instead of me lecturing about the elements of poetry, students can find out for themselves by scanning the QR code on each card, writing their responses, and then checking the answers. Now isn’t that learning by Inquiry in itself?

FREE MATH LESSON – “Free Counting Song 1-20 (MP3)”

by Renee Dawn

PreKindergarten – 12th Grade

Counting Song PNG

How do you get kids to behave, calm down, clean up, transition, do homework, time out, stand and stretch? It’s all made easier with a soothing voice counting the numbers 1 – 20 over relaxing music with a soft beat.

This “magic timer” counts numbers like a heartbeat. It is one beat per second, plus intro and fade-out; one minute of music in all. It’s a great behavior management tool to help kids calm their minds and focus on the task at hand. You can replay it for an extended countdown.

It’s also perfect for teaching kids to count numbers 1-20, as the pronunciation is slow, clear and correct.

It’s not just for kids! If you would like a minute of relaxation, then cup your palms over your eyes as you listen to this…

It’s FREE, so enjoy it…and if you would kindly leave your rating and feedback it would be greatly appreciated!

I hope you find this MP3 useful and helpful, and if you’d like to try the longer version it’s here:

“When I first began TBOTEMC, I will admit, I was a little skeptical. I decided to really commit to the material, and I got connected with some of the members. TBOTEMC was the best decision, or investment, I have ever made. My sales for February 2015 are $8,046. My total sales for last year were just over $6,000. I’ve made more money this month than all last year!!! I am only a few thousand dollars away from my first TPT MILESTONE! I MADE THE TOP 100 PRODUCTS AND TOP 100 SELLERS OF THE WEEK. Julie from Educating Everyone 4 Life has been my cheerleader, and emails me whenever I need her. I bought my tickets for Las Vegas, and I can’t wait to see what else TBOTEMC has in store!!! Thank you Victoria! I want to hug you in real life!!!”

“I started selling at TpT in January of 2013 and, without much marketing, made steady progress and managed to reach the first milestone in October of 2014. After realizing the potential of this business, I decided that I MUST add marketing to my plan if I wanted to continue to rise in the marketplace to the next level. That is when I discovered Vicky’s product. With the guidance of this program, I have seen increases in all areas of my business and I have begun to enjoy the benefits of working with others for the common goal of increasing TpT awareness in the world marketplace. I highly recommend adding this to your own hard work and see where it can take you.”
